Having problems with a MS-5182, K6-2 system i have. It began with hanging during games (the "all the lights are on but no-one's home" sort of hang) and has deteriorated to the point where i can't even boot into DOS! If i try i get as far as "Starting Windows 98" the floppy does its first "crunch, grind" and that's it, it hangs!

I've eliminated the HDD as a problem and i'm starting to think its a major motherboard problem.

Any ideas?

I've never had a problem that prevents booting into DOS before (if it gets past booting the BIOS). Its all too confusing for my tiny little mind!

Cheers

Go into the BIOS normally achieved by hitting delete during the POST screen. Reset it to defaults and make sure that the CPU settings are correct..see what happens..

If problems persist check inside the system to make sure nothing is obviously wrong. I've got a picture in my head of an IDE cable slightly popped out of the mainboard IDE connector..common problem that one

Failing that start trouble shooting by yanking out anything that you don't need such as cards other than graphics, unplug the cdrom, extra memory...the lot..see what happens

I'm sure it won't get that far, let me know if you're still having problems..
