Won't Recognize

Here's the config. Abit KT7-RAID, Win98se, IDE1 Plexwriter 8x, IDE2 Pioneer 16XDVD Primary, IDE2 Slave Zip Drive, Two hard drives spanned on raid controller. Everything works fine with this machine, can r/w on the dvd, however when I try burning using the DVD as source, error stating cant read media, swap out the DVD with a Cdrom, and everything works fine, the plexwriter will detect media in Cdrom but not in DVD. Adaptec software 4.02.

Figured it out. The DVD needed latest firmware version.

Amazing what a firmware update can do for those CDROM reading issues, isn't it?

Had the same issue with my RICOH CDRW/DVD drive. Sometimes it makes you wonder how they can release these things to the general public with such lousy firmware.

I hope you or anyone can help me. I bought a Ricoh mp9120 cd-rw/dvd-rom drive. Anyhow it came with "no" instructions. Was not advertisedas OEM by the retailter but I got nothing. Anyhow, other than plugging it into the IDE cable, setting the jumper, and putting a DVD in what else do I need to do to actually watch a DVD. Do I have to buy an MPEG decoder card? I think I need software so I am planning on getting either WinDVD or Power DVD. Please help out this newbie...
