So I need to run some programs as administrator, and it won't do it. It doesn't say anything about "you aren't administrator you can't do it" it just flat-out doesn't do anything. I checked my settings and i do have administrator privileges, it just isn't doing anything. Anyone know a fix?

Solution
Ok. Lets see if it is a profile related issue.

See if it will let you do this.

https://www.groovypost.com/howto/create-local-account-windows-10/

Then log into that new profile and see if you have similar issues or not.
Please screenshot this location for us.

Control Panel\User Accounts\User Accounts\Manage Accounts\Change an Account\Change Account Type

It should show "standard" and "administrator" we need to see how it is configured.

Also screenshot the following location.

Right click on PC>Manage>Local Users & Groups>Groups> Double click on "administrators" and show us who is under the General tab of that group.

Sometimes you can be the administrator in the first option I stated, but if you are not in the administrators group in the second option. It may not work properly.

Your account should be in both groups.

If you are not in both. Add your profile to both options then log out and back in.

ss202sl, i know how to run things as administrator, it just isn't doing anything. androbourne, i think i found the right place for your first location, i couldn't find the second one. it says i'm administrator, and i know that, and as i stated in my original post, it doesn't say anything about me not having admin privileges, it just straight up isn't doing anything.

Like I said. Your profile might be selected as administrator in control panel profiles. But if you are not in the administrator group in option 2, you wont actually have administrator rights.

What are you stuck on in locating option two? How far did you get?

But that aside.

What program are you trying to run and on what OS?

If manage isnt coming up then you have another issue going on. The PC isn't letting you run any admin related tasks. UAC might be blocking, some other application or the system has been locked down.

See if you can go into control panel again and on the top on the right. Search for UAC. It should show "security and maintenance" and just under that it should say "change user account control settings" click on that. The grab the slider and put it all the way to the bottom. Hit OK then close out of it and reboot your PC.

Then try running anything as administrator or going back into Manage.

Yes. I understand... Manage is a UAC control and so is "run as administrator" all these things you are trying to do and it not working is in indication that the system is locked down and you are not on an administrator profile.

Any action with a shield next to it, means it requires admin rights to run. You can see a shield on Manage option... This is what I'm saying. You are not an administrator of your system.

If you were, you should be able to disable UAC, as described here.

http://winaero.com/blog/how-to-turn-off-and-disable-uac-in-windows-10/

(do option one only)

Some times UAC causes these kinds of issues. So again, disable it and reboot your PC and try again.

So most likely it was stopping it because it wasn't sure what the program was.
