I decided to part ways with apple and decided to build myself a PC workstation for rendering, 3D, and graphics. Everything was recognized in the bios and I was running less than 40degrees. But when I tried installing the OS, it would get stuck in a reboot loop. This would happen after I punched in my windows key. I tried restarting it and the win logo would appear then suddenly the machine would reboot as if someone turned the switch off and back on again.. I thought i might be the PSU but I tried another PSU Corsair 1200W and it happened again...I did get a windows error saying there was an error in the installation, but thats probably due because the installation never completed. I tripled check all my connections and still no luck.. I'm I running into a compatibility issue somewhere?

Is my single xeon processor not compatible with my x99 mobo? do I need 2 xeons or a server mobo?
Is my mobo or cpu faulty?
Is socket FCLGA 2011-3 the same as LGA 2011-v3?
I don't know where to go from here.. please help!

Here's my rigg:
CPU : Intel Xeon E5-2697V4 2.3 GHz 45 MB L3 Cache LGA 2011-3
MOTHERBOARD: ASUS X99-E- WS
COOLER: Noctua NH-D15 82.5 CFM CPU Cooler
RAM : Crucial 64GB (4 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM ECC DDR4 2133 (PC4 17000) Server Memory Model CT4K16G4RFD4213
GRAPHICS CARD : Quadro M5000
POWER SUPPLY: EVGA SuperNOVA 1200 P2 220-P2-1200-X1 80+ PLATINUM 1200W Fully Modular EVGA ECO Mode Includes FREE Power On Self Tester Power Supply
M.2 : SAMSUNG 960 EVO M.2 1TB NVMe PCI-Express 3.0 x4 Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
DRIVE : SAMSUNG 850 EVO 2.5" 1TB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
OS.Win10pro

Make sure all of the EPS and PCIE power connectors are plugged in, the one I am referring to are in red. I only bring this up because the board could still run without all of these in red plugged in until the CPU or GPU tries using more power.

Also, which drive are you attempting to install the OS on, M.2 or SATA III?

Try disconnecting all drives but the one you are installing on, also try removing all but 1 stick of ram.

Thanks carbongrip! I'm installing on the sata iii. I'll definitely try power plugs you highlighted in your diagram on my next attempt once the replacement parts come in.

Thanks again
I tried the single stick of Ram.

What BIOS is on it because it needs BIOS 3004 to support that CPU.

If 3004 isnt on it update it using flashback

The BIOS is up to 3402 now

Look at the sticker on the mobo. The last 4 numbers is the BIOS thats on it. This maybe at the top of the mobo if it's installed in the case

Hey Paul NZ,
Thanks for the input.. Unfortunately, I did what you mentioned about my BIOS and it is up-to-date.

What SSD are you trying to install Windows on?? Because you'll need drivers for the NVME

But first you'll have to configure the BIOS so it appears. Does the NVME appear in the BIOS?

And where did the install come from?

What I would do is unplug the hdds youre not going to install Windows on.

Then see if Windows installs. If it does connect them after Windows has been installed

And if the memory is ECC memory, (According to the Crucial site, it is), the manual doesnt say it supports ECC ram

You may install 2 GB, 4 GB and 8 GB unbuffered and non-ECC DDR4 DIMMs into the DIMM
sockets.

I dont think the ram is compatible for this system

I would say thats the cause of this reboot loop

Hey Carbongrip,

I have cables for the top two you marked in red.. but I'm not sure what cables go for the plug in the middle you marked in red of the mobo?
