Sounds exactly like the wrath of the lich king CE kinda hoped they would change it up a bit. Oh well, I can hope for my plush toys someday.

I've got mine preordered.

I've bought all 3 collector's editions, and despite what people say, I have actually looked at the art books rather frequently, I've listened to the audio CDs once each. (They're not really listening music, and definitely not driving music.) I also watched the DVDs a couple times. I didn't just buy them for the in game pet. I bought them as my support for Blizzard, since they are the best game writers in the industry. Many people may not like the game play or the content (challenge) of the games, but you have to admit they have awesome story lines, great lore, and well behaved games. (Most of the problems I've seen in WoW were actually spyware and bad hardware, not a problem with the game.) In addition, they make games that are entirely self contained. They don't have all sorts of registry entries and special files all over the OS. They don't make games that thread themselves into the OS so badly that when the game fails, the OS is taken down with it. (I will never buy another Adobe product again after my latest Photoshop copy protection crash leading to an OS reinstall from scratch.) That's the way all programs should be except anti-virus: entirely self contained.

[citation][nom]Kahless01[/nom]you dont even have to buy the game, just download the client and pay the monthly. ive been doing it for years. i download it once a year or so and try it to see if its worth it and it still bores the shit outta me so i delete it. had a private server that wasnt bad but its still not something i would pay 15$ a month for, thats just crazy.[/citation]

You have to buy the game originally. After that you own the game so you can pay monthly to play, stop playing, and pay monthly to play again as you choose.

This game is getting mighty expensive. If you want to get the full series and level up all the way to Cataclysm you'll need to spend $15 on WoW, $25 on the Burning Crusade, $35 on Wrath of the Lich King, and then probably $50 on Cataclysm. That's $125 + tax even before you get the opportunity to pay $12/month or whatever the monthly fee is.

If you've been playing the game since it came out the added expansion isn't a big deal but I don't understand how Blizzard is adding totally new customers anymore. It's pretty daunting in terms of monetary expenses and leveling (90 now?) if you want to play the complete game.

I'll probably buy the game at some point and start playing again. I found leveling up and doing some world PVP to be enjoyable but after you hit the cap and mess around for a bit I always get bored and end the subscription.

Yet another useless collectors edition. If you are thinking of buying this, i got an advice for you....

Don't! Save that hard earned money to buy Star wars: the old republic collector's edition 😀

nope, it's less than that. The Cataclysm regular version is going to be $40 (That has been confirmed, but I can't find it right now) and the price of Wrath of the Lich King will likely be going down upon the release of Cataclysm. (I haven't confirmed the price drop on Wrath, but since BC came down to $25 when Wrath was released, Wrath is very likely to go down when Cata is released.) You can also get the first 2 in one package, but that is the same as the prices you listed together at $40.

The monthly subscription is more expensive than you listed. If you pay month to month, it's $15. I pay 6 months at a time and that brings it down to $13 per month.

I still think its worth it, though.

I prefer VALVe. But I do like Blizzard for Warcraft. I miss my Warcraft.

Zug Zug to my dead seals.

I got my court date out of the way, divorced my wife, sold my house, quit my job and living on poggy in my mums basement so i can play this here game 24/7. I love wow and it loves me 😀 haha jk Thats cool that you don't need the in between versions.. I was starting to think if you want to play this game you had to get them all!.. I stopped playing at level 70... When i started it was 1 to 60 and before i hit 60 it went to 70, by the time i finally got some T6 on my **** server the next expansion was around the corner... bah! It's not worth the time and effort.

I started wow from january to the end of april. I was on unemployment insurance so I got to play in an addictive manner =D
Although it was fun for the most part, and I was lucky enough to get all 3 games on sale on boxing day week, I really don't think it's worth $15 per month, but to each their own right?
It also sucks that there aren't to many people who are willing or are even competent enough to go through burning crusade raids since most people don't learn or even listen. I was making a leet lvl 75 frost dk and wanted the best gear possible, almost there but still, you should see how sad some of the BC heroics are, I can almost solo some mobs yet the rest of my team gets killed anyways from aoe attacks lol. Imagine LK heroics with all party members in green...sure they can make it, but it will take 4x longer

You do. You can buy World of Warcraft for $20 and get your character to 60 and be done with it. Since you'll have to update to 4.0 regardless, the world of Azeroth will look the same for you as it does for the people who have the Cata expansion. You just won't be able to access or create anything related to BC/WotLK/Cata. No Death Knights, no Blood Elves, no Worgen, etc. To get to 85, you still need to get to 80, which means you still need to get to 70, which means you'll still have to buy all of the expansions. :S

[citation][nom]Dirtman73[/nom]What's really sad is that Blizzard is going to sell a ton of these...[/citation]

Yeah, I made the mistake of buying the BC one. Swore to never buy a limited collectors edition of anything ever again. Total waste of money.

For those that don't know, you can download the original game and both current expansions for free. It's a few gigs. Also, everything installs to the WoW folder (no registry BS). For multiple installs, just copy that folder to everyone else's PC on your LAN. It's pretty awesome. There are free servers out there as well. They are NOT sanctioned by Blizzard though.

i am hoenstly sick and tired of eharing about world of war-crack. sems every 6 months blizzard releases a new pack or box set for it , talk aobut milking a cow. blizard ahsn;t made any real NEW IP in years all i see or hear from them is WoW, diablo, star craft , WoW. honestly i lost interest in thier games and them as a dev , sequels are not innovative or that creative it's jsut turned into a machine of buisness imo.

this is why i think blizzard are unscrupulous greedy bastards , seriously they already charge 15 bucks a month to play, the exansions should ALL BE FREE !!!!!!

I very rarely buy collector's editions and I would not do so for an expansion to an existing MMO. Gran Turismo 5 is likely a collector's edition I will not pass up based on its contents and my love for the franchise. FFXIV will likely be another because they let you play 8 days earlier than anyone else; a gimmick, but an effective one.

I like how you feel you can judge people. I'm buying one. So to you I'm a fool?

I didn't give up my life to play it. I only play about 12-14 hours a week, but I also don't watch much tv. The average TV watching in this country is over 30 hours a week. I watch about 5 hours a week plus 12-14 hours of WoW, so I'm even ahead of most of the couch potatoes.

if you go by EQ expansion guidelines, there have been a total of 11 expansions to WoW. Most of those have been free.

1. Molten Core (free)
2. Black Wing Lair (free)
3. An-Qiraj (free)
4. Naxxramas (free)
5. Burning Crusade (cost)
6. Black Temple (free)
7. Sunwell (free)
8. Wrath of the Lich King (cost)
9. Ulduar (free)
10 Tournament of the Crusader (free)
11. Icecrown Citadel (free)
12. Cataclysm (cost)

EQ would have charged $30 for every one of these. I count us WoW players lucky in that matter. Bobby Kotick will probably change this, though.

So funny, the hypocrisy is those that lay out on the couch like a beached whale are normally the ones that have this bizarre brain rotting/video game correlation going on. S'OK though, that generation should be plopin' in their caskets in the next 20 years or so.

Most people buy these for the stupid ingame pet.

This isn't the way to look at it. Think about it. Burning Crusade's star enemy was Illidan Stormrage. We didn't get to kill him for well over a year from the time BC was released. It should have been released WITH the xpac but instead blizzard holds back and makes you pay an additional $15 per month for a year before you can finally get to the boss that the whole xpac was about. They did the same thing with the Lich King in the WotLK expansion and to me, that's pretty freaking lame.

Also don't forget that Molten Core and probably BWL should have been released with the original game, not several months later in incredibly buggy states.

On top of this they charge $25 for server transfers, which is basically like copying a file from one server to another. They charge $10 for pets, $25 for mounts etc, the list goes on and on. I can understand charging $15 for a monthly service, but additional charges for things like pets and server transfers that cost them absolutely nothing to make or carry out is just plain greedy.

[citation][nom]nebun[/nom]yes the lower jaw is longer than the upper jaw[/citation]

It's called an underbite. His parents never got him headgear, so don't make fun. I'm sure they were just poor. Besides, his top teeth are fine, so clearly he had braces and brushes daily.

@dgingeri

Oh you're also forgetting that Naxxramas was remade and released with WotLK, meaning they didn't create any major raid zones for the release of an entire expansion. They're going to do this in the next xpac as well, "remaking" old level 15 instances so we can stab ourselves in the eye with a fork and go back there.

It is identical in content. Here's hoping the mousepad is a little nicer. The one included with the Wrath CE is thick and durable, but the generic plastic surface isn't all that great.

Hell, EVERY collector's edition has pretty much been the same. The original was unique in that you had three pets to choose from (but can now get all three on a given character) and it came with a cloth map instead of a mousepad.

Not that I'll complain, it's a pretty solid formula aside from the mousepad.
