Does cross-eyed 3d really work? I saw some of the images, now my eyes hurt...
What type of 3D are you referring to?
It is possible with 3D vision, if you don't properly adjust convergence, that it will show images too close that make you go cross-eyed, but that's an adjustment that is easily fixed. As long as you don't mess up the settings, your view is the same view as if you were seeing it in real life, but done with a bit of a trick. It shows a different image per eye, like in real life, each eye views things from a different perspective.
Oh wow, that could only work with a small screen or at least with the images that are small. Your eyes can only relax to see about 3 or 4 inches a part. It sounds uncomfortable.
You aren't supposed to do it by crossing your eyes, but rather relaxing your eyes as if you were looking in the far distance. At least that is what I thought you were supposed to do. I wonder if it would work a lot easier if you place something like manilla folder between your two eyes right to the middle of the images so each eyes cannot see the other eyes image.
I figured out how to make it work. I look at the tip of my nose, then move my head to the right distance from my monitor so that the image lines up with my vision while I continue to look at my nose. Once the image is lined up, I can focus my eyes to the image on the screen. It now works perfectly, but quite uncomfortable.
The image is a bit blurred as well, well at least not in that video. I'm currently watching a video of Crysis 2 in 3D (cross eyed).

Full screen and 1080p makes it much less blurry.
That's a neat trick. Doing it again, I tried to keep my distance from the monitor, and after crossing my eyes looking at my nose, I can slowly relax them until the two images line up. It's far less uncomfortable at a distance and still works.

That is pretty neat. Unfortunately that video was having issues downloading fast enough. I may try it another time, but I can say that while it works, it feels like tunnel view, as you really are only able to view it as if it was 910x1080 resolution.
Yeah, it does make it look like a tunnel view. I only watched like a minute of it, and already my eyes are starting to feel uncomfortable.
I should keep away, for now.
Trying it again, now that I can download it fast enough, I found that it was really difficult to focus on until I backed off about 5-7 feet from my 27" monitor. At that point I could see that the images for each eye were not only lowered resolution from side to side, but it compressed the full horizontal image into half side, distorting everything. I also didn't get nearly the quality of 3D that you get when actually playing in 3D vision.
That said, it still might give a little bit of the experience to someone who has not been able to try it in real life.
Ive done all the 4 surrounds you can do and i have mixed feelings about them. So far the one that worked the most smoothest was softTH or Triplehead2go. I like nvidia surround and eyefinity but they required alot more tweaking than softTH did and by alot more i mean days of tweaking or "hacking" different monitors to work nice together.
Don't get me wrong surround is awesome but man i couldn't do it on a daily basis simply because most games you have to turn your head from one side to the other to see whats on the screen on the left or right side such as playing an MMO. *It made me tired after playing an MMO for 10 minutes. I would only recommend surround on FPS and racing games.
Man you need to hit the gym or get on a bike LOL Doesn't that Triplehead to go cost HUNDREDS of dollars ?

Actually im in college atm 4 years in and another 2 years to go lol. I am very active lol i go to the Gym every day next to the dorms and I just have time to do all this stuff when im not in class. Other than that i also help run a LAN gaming club where we have about 150+ people attend every time and i get to check out their surround/rigs when i have a chance so i learned alot about surround and the different types through those events.
Triplehead2go i got to borrow from a buddy of mine in school and test that out and so far that and SoftTH work the best for mix matched monitors since you can do it with any resolution.

Ya I like the ideal of the Triple Head to go unit but the thing that holds it back is the price I think they are $305.76 and a special order from NCIX Canada which relegates it to pure novelty since AMD and Nvidia have a similar feature built in to the cost of ownership of most of there respective cards.
Thats why SoftTH is so cool: http://www.kegetys.fi/SoftTH/
You can use different graphics cards in unison with SoftTH because how it works is taking one card to do all the processing and then the processing card and the other card outputting to the different monitors. I believe the maximum this software supports is 255 displays as well.

I would not trust jankey third party softwares running on Nvidia or AMD cards.
Actually it works really good lol and ive been following the development for many years. The thing i like is that it is opensource and free and they update it monthly with many people using it. It is far from jankey third party software since Nvidia and ATI took some of that surround technology and put it into their own solutions.
you wouldnt trust it? trust it to do what exactly? its not a powersupply with a chance of wrecking ***. it either works or it doesnt. how lazy is that, you'd just not use a product over googling others experiences with it

you sound smart
"you'd just not use a product over googling others experiences with it" Thats right your a moron TH reviews and individuals experiences by way of as you say "googling" is a great way to see whats up. I bet you'd just not use a product AMD FX BullDozer over googling others "TomHardwares" experiences with it.
