Worth going for the 980 SLI for 4K

Now my plan was get 2 970s SLI and add them to my watercooling loop. I was going to overclock them as much as possible within the default power limits and then use them to power my 4k monitor. This will cost be roughly £500.

I was about to get them but I was unsure whether the upgrade to 980s would be worth it. This would cost me at least £900 if not more so I really don't want to have to pay quite that much but is it worth the £400+ more?

How much difference will it actually make? I know I won't be able to max out every game and stuff but it'll still be nice to get playable fps.

You can compare the performance difference in this review:

I have to say I highly doubt a 50% advantage, unless of course you are comparing different benchmark sets (in which case it's certainly unreliable data). For some reason they skipped 970 sli in these benches for BF4, but the rest of them suggest a much more reasonable 10~30% difference in UHD:

From the result Ko888 posted I think its fair to say that in my case it's not justified to get the 980s. With the 980s SLI only getting about 10fps more at best its just not worth the price in my opinion since I don't have bottomless pockets. Thanks for the help!

Yeah, hard to compare different benchmarks from different reviewers. Vaguely recall that 44FPS average from Anandtech, but I can't recall if it was single player, multiplayer, the map...

4K isn't quite worth it without G-Sync I think, and those monitors aren't that impressive aside from the resolution at the price. Waiting for a greater then 27" 144Hz monitor with G-sync myself.
