Worth updateing?

Currently I have a xp2800 with a GF TI4400. Now, I found some nice deals for a ATI 9600XT 256MB.... Is it worth updateing? Can anyone give me a advice? The cost are about 180$...... Is there a big difference?

Nice idea Thanks... But the problem is, that this deal is not available from switzerland, and the 9800 is to expensive here....

so you thing its not worth upgrading?

i would get a 9600pro 128meg if they are avaiable

256 adds too much to the price, and offers no performance gains

Yes, I know how you feel ... but about upgrading, I guess your GPU currently run your games with very respectable settings. New GPU will appear in a couple of months, and I don't expect D3 or HL2 anytime soon. So I will wait, even if you finally buy the same card you are looking right now, it should be cheaper.

Also, you will have benchmarks with the new games with all the GPUs, so more knowledge to decide what to buy.

My only suggestion against waiting is if you have the opportunity to buy in USA (a friend going there, a business travel, etc.). 9800Pro can be found for around $200, that's really great!

I don't think you will see big improvements. I went from a G4 Ti 4200 > 9600 pro. The improvement I noticed had to do with shading/shadow type stuff. Probrably a function of DX9 v DX8. Oh, with the 256 mb you may get some better textures if the game allows

I suggest to wait and try to find somebody going to the US who can pick up a 9800pro for you.
