Currently I have a 2600K (4.2 on air) and I have a NIB 4690K. I'm contemplating buying an Asrocks Z97 Extreme 6 and upgrading. My main concern is I do a little video editing and I'm upgrading mainly for VR.

WIll the 4690K improve my frame rate In Vr for Project cars?

Will I take a big hit for video editing?

With gaming it will help your fps a tad bit. But not too much since your 2600k is pretty nicely overclocked. Well since its overclocked it will most likely be the same in gaming. With video rendering you are better off staying with your i7 because it has hyper threading and the i5 does not. So the i5 would be quite a bit slower at video rendering. So the best option is to stay with your i7.
Now if you were upgrading to a newer i7 then that would be worth it since all i7 cpus have hyperthreading
