I am considering on upgrading my Radeon XFX RX 550 to a GTX 1060 3b but i'm not sure if i will see an improvement on performance. Please help me decide whether or not this upgrade will be worth it for me.

The 1060 is about a $100 more but its a tier lvl higher.

Here is a link to the current graphics card i have.

Solution
Spending money on Ram wont do you any miracles. Especially considering you have DDR3 Ram.
Save some money for a new Mb and CPU and buy DDR4 Ram. I'm betting u can survive a few months to save some money for that investment.
Do you think it will be a substantial improvement? or just a little i know its hard to say but i'm just making sure its worth spending 120$ more.

By the way, androbourne, I really appreciate your time and effort in assisting me

also, if there is a different graphics card you can suggest me thats worth upgrading to ( $260 price range) please let me know.

Assuming you will not use resolution higher then 1080p, you will see positive difference. Note however that more and more games start using higher amounts of VRAM, and 3 Gb version of 1060 is right now the card with lowest amount of it amongst all of gaming GPUs. Thus it will be the first to suffer performance hit in future games (in fact, it already does suffer in some games, although usually in higher resolutions). If you can stretch your budget to afford 6Gb version, it would be no brainer. Otherwise, it's still worthy change, but you should be aware that version is not much future-proof. But if you don't mind swapping GPU again in about 2 years max, you can go for it.

i really need help here guys. i need a performance improvement in GPU but i only have about 260$ price range to stay within.

is there any GPU worth considering in between the price range of 1060 6GB and Rx 550 4gb?

any suggestions are helpful!! much love all! thanks!

Technology nowaday is changing so quickly. Anything you purchase will be out date by 3-4 years anyway.

I would suspect you would notice a substantial improvement.

Now if you want something that is cheaper, notice an improvement and is more pairable with your CPU. You could get a 1050 TI

Just note that if you change out your board/cpu in the next 2-3 years, you will also want to upgrade to another video card. But the money you saved buying the 1050 you could put to use in the future build. and the 1050TI should be able to carry our current system for another few years.

just my recommendation.

That EVGA is at good price because it's single fan construction - meaning it has lower OC capability, and will be more noisy under heavy load. BUT, the actual performance difference between those two cards would be no more then few % (in ASUS favor), compared to about 25% diff in price it's obvious that EVGA is superior choice here.

Just note that the GTX 1060 is SEVEN tier levels higher than the RX 550. The GTX 1050Ti is FIVE tier levels higher than the RX 550.

Your initial post seemed to imply that you believed that the 1060 was only one tier level above the 550.. but I may have misunderstood your intent.

So i went with evga 1050ti 4GB and graphics seem to be much cleaner but there has been a couple scenarios where my frames dropeed to like 10 FPS randomnly. This never happened with my radeon 550 (same game) i think this only occurs when a lot of explosions or if theres a lot going on near me.
Could this be my lack of ram memory? Or is this a result of my system bottleknecking?

UPDATE **

i downloaded and installed a more recent driver nvdia had to offer. However, I was skeptical about driver at first because it was labeled as a "beta" driver? nevertheless, it seems to have gotten rid of the lag. it runs smoother.. and doesn't ever drop to 10 fps like it did before. . regardless, im starting to believe 16GB of ram is imminent

Solution
I'm not looking for a miracle. . clearly the 1050ti was a improvement on graphics and i think its safe to say the updated driver may have taken care of the random frame rate droppage. . i'm just considering on upgrading my
current 8GB of ram to 16GB of ram. . i can't foresee myself purchasing a $1500-$2500 rig in the next few months to say the least.

I linked you benchmarks of both your card vis 1050ti and the 1060. They are both vast improvements over what you currently have.

We are just saying your system will bottleneck until you get a new one. So dont expect "ZOMFG" performance boost. However, you should notice a boost in performance for GPU related applications for sure.

UPDATE**

just bought 8 GB of ram (2x4GB) the EXACT identical ram and it worked fine after installing it and it worked OK for 10 -15 mins until i bluescreened and got a MEMORY DUMP error. . what could be the reason for this? i've uninstalled the ram .

ok so apparently my mobo supports dual channel only. . but it has 4 slots. . i'm confused. but i'm assuming thats why i got there error. .

So, moving forward, how can i determine what the max GB or MHz is compatible with my mobo. . im sure how to tell ..

here is a link to my mobo . .

someone help me determine what the max ram memory i can upgrade to . . lol o.0

but i still can't figure out why my frames drop when there is significant gun fire or explosions etc occuring. Although the graphics weren't as good(on the RX 550) it wasn't so "choppy"

Try it on other games to see if there is a difference.
About the frame drops: if you increased the graphic quality, you probably have some kption for amount of particles and smoke. Try lowering that a bit.
Your new Gpu may be a lot better than you old one but it is not top of the line and may struggle on more demanding effects.
