Would 2 routers help?

Okay so i have xfinity high speed internet, but i dont have the greatest router. The router is a Xfinity tg682 which has a speed of up to 150 mbps. the router is a 2 in one router/modem. When i use my downstairs desktop, it makes the laptops wifi very slow. I also have a belkin play wireless router, which has a maxium speed of 300 mbps. I was wondering, if i used both routers would i have a maxium speed of 450? please explain, my parents are getting mad when i use my desktop cause they cant connect to the internet, so i am wonder if adding the second belkin router would help this issue at all, any help would be great!

I google searched the model number you provided and I was unable to find firmware updates without a user account:

But my google search also came up with a lot of similar-sounding issues with the wifi being unbearably slow while the wired connection was great. You can set up your secondary router for just wifi if you wish, just connect it to one of the ethernet ports and set up the router in accordance with the instructions in the manual.

it's likely that when you are using the desktop, you are eating up all the bandwidth on your network, which has nothing to do with the quality of your router and everything to do with the quality of internet service that you are buying.

I have 24mbps download and 6mbps upload and Im constantly surfing the web, I have a mysql database running 24/7 as well with a minecraft server. My brother play games constantly on the xbox and his friends with their laptops. Yet, other people can still get on the internet and use it fine.

Is it possible that neighbors can be using your internet? Especially if you live in a city apartment and your wifi isn't locked. If not, there would appear there are issues at hand.

But even if your streaming 1080p from netflix, it only takes up around 8mbps

yes yes i know that but i am sharing that with 1 desktop 2 laptops and 4 smartphones, also we have a security camera system that is constantly uploading to an online database. My friend has more devices than i have, and he has a slower internet plan, and a slower router and he does not have any of these issues.

Im thinking it is an issue with my router speed, but i am wondering if it would help to use both my routers. Like i was wonder if i connected my laptops and smartphones to the 300 mbps router, and my desktop to the 150 mbps router would that have any affect?

No. Everything flows out through the same overall 60Mbps ISP connection. Adding a second router will introduce far more problems.

So the issue seems to be that when you are on your desktop, WiFi performance suffers for others? Is your desktop wired or wireless?
What do you have running when this happens?

So what are the exact symptoms? WiFI slow? Only when you're online? Does it change if you shut your PC off? Possible interference from neighbors?

there should not be any interference with neighbors since they dont know our password. when i am using this computer my other computer seem to lose all connection, or almost all.

Exactly what this guy said, you're only getting 60mbps download speeds and the router can handle up to 300mbps. So the routers are not limiting the internet speeds.

Interference as in you all on the same WiFi channel. 1, 6, 11.

You need to determine the exact situation when your parents WiFi dies out. Trial and error.
Turn your PC off. Do they still have a problem?
If not...while everything is working fine WiFi, turn your PC on. Does the problem magically appear?

okay sorry i guess im just confusee, cause on a diferent thread a guy was saying that with my 150 mbps router split between 7 devices + the security system i would only get about 16 mbps per device

If all 8 devices are talking to the router at the same time, the most any one device will get talking to the router is 10-20Mbps.
Talking to the outside world, the most any particular device will get is 7Mbps. 60/8. That is if each and every device is actively conversing with an outside server. Security cams, youtube, OS updates, whatever.

Talking to the router is one thing. Talking to the outside world (youtube) is completely different.

You need to determine the actual cause of the problem (if there really is one). Just throwing another router at it is not the solution.

okay and the weird thing is that the only thing my parents use the laptops for, is to look at thier email. THe smartphones dont seem like they would be using that much bandwith when they are just idling, and so the only large things using up the bandwith would be my desktop and the security system, would both of those really use up all 60 mbps? it doesnt seem like loading email would use up much bandwith at all

thats where im confused, my friends dont have issues with thier 20 mbps download speed. so im wonder what could be causing the issues. Is it possible that when i use this desktop it doesnt allow the laptops to have accesss to any of the bandwith?
