Okay so i have xfinity high speed internet, but i dont have the greatest router. The router is a Xfinity tg682 which has a speed of up to 150 mbps. the router is a 2 in one router/modem. When i use my downstairs desktop, it makes the laptops wifi very slow. I also have a belkin play wireless router, which has a maxium speed of 300 mbps. I was wondering, if i used both routers would i have a maxium speed of 450? please explain, my parents are getting mad when i use my desktop cause they cant connect to the internet, so i am wonder if adding the second belkin router would help this issue at all, any help would be great!

Solution
I google searched the model number you provided and I was unable to find firmware updates without a user account:

But my google search also came up with a lot of similar-sounding issues with the wifi being unbearably slow while the wired connection was great. You can set up your secondary router for just wifi if you wish, just connect it to one of the ethernet ports and set up the router in accordance with the instructions in the manual.

If there is an issue when that PC is on, and no issue when that PC is off.....something is wrong with that PC.
What is it running? Have a torrent seeding or something? A possible virus or other malware?
You have to actually look at the running processes and see what is up.

in that case it could be an issue with the way the router allocates bandwidth to connected devices. Check to see if there's firmware updates for your router. Also, it's worth a try to use your second router and see if the problem persists or worsens. It certainly couldn't hurt.

I have run many diferent anti virus programs to check that and that doesnt look like the issue. I dont have any torrents seeding. and in my task manager under the procecces and programs tab i only find the usual things that i am using. im really confused on what could be causing this

Have we determined the exact situation when the WiFi goes bad?

PC off, all is good?
Turn it on, WiFi goes bad?
Turn it off, WiFi is good again?

Where can i check for router firmware updates? and also entomber " it could be an issue with the way the router allocates bandwidth to connected devices." My frined has been telling me it could be this, i feel that it could be too, is there anyway to change this?

usafret. when i turn the desktop off and wait about 2 minutes the laptops can connect, when i turn it back on and wait a few minute the laptops lose connection, unless i reset the router then they work as long as i am not activley using the desktop

Then either the desktop is sucking up all the bandwidth, or some setting in the router. But most consumer grade routers don't have that level of control.

okay entomber i think i will try that soon, thats what i was wondering. I was wonder if i could set up my xfinity router for connnected use, and my belkin router for wireless use. I will be glad to try this soon and post the results.

if your belkin router's wireless works fine at the same time that your xfinity router's wired desktop connection works, then you can just disable the wireless on your xfinity router (or you should be able to) to minimize the amount of radio noise in your home.

You need to configure the second router as an Access Point only. Turn OFF DHCP, firewall, etc.

hmmmm... thats what i thought pigsinspace72 but it doesnt seem to be working """Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to 192.168.1.1

Did you mean: www.192.168.1.1rr.com"""

What is printed on the bottom of the router?
