Okay so i have xfinity high speed internet, but i dont have the greatest router. The router is a Xfinity tg682 which has a speed of up to 150 mbps. the router is a 2 in one router/modem. When i use my downstairs desktop, it makes the laptops wifi very slow. I also have a belkin play wireless router, which has a maxium speed of 300 mbps. I was wondering, if i used both routers would i have a maxium speed of 450? please explain, my parents are getting mad when i use my desktop cause they cant connect to the internet, so i am wonder if adding the second belkin router would help this issue at all, any help would be great!

Solution
I google searched the model number you provided and I was unable to find firmware updates without a user account:

But my google search also came up with a lot of similar-sounding issues with the wifi being unbearably slow while the wired connection was great. You can set up your secondary router for just wifi if you wish, just connect it to one of the ethernet ports and set up the router in accordance with the instructions in the manual.

It still should, but oh well.
Bring up a command prompt, and enter ipconfig.
The value you're looking for is 'Default Gateway'. That should be the IP address of your router.

wait??? i am so confused "Disable the DHCP and change the LAN IP to match the gateway IP but ending in something like .253" doesnt this mean i need to disable dhcp on the xfinity?

No. You tell the second router to get a specific IP from the xfinity. Something outside the normal DHCP range.

See my above link and try that.

What you're trying to do is make the second router an access point. Let the main router do the DHCP, etc. The second router just handles whatever WiFi traffic is going on, and passes it to the main router.

Yes. The actual problem seems to be that the xfinity can't handle the WiFi. So we offload that, and only that, to the other router.
See what happens. It might work, it might not. But until you try, we don't know.
If it still doesn't work, then try some other config.

wait wait wait. i just found out the belkin help site gives you two options on how to set it as an access point, you can either just turn on this setting that makes it an access point or you can do it yourself by disabling all the stuff liike dhcp etc. So Now that i got it as an acces point do i just use one of my ethernet cables to connect it to the modem via lan port to lan port?

I've not seen the options in the Belkin settings, but probably, yes.
