Would 2500k@4.4 be ok with 980 ti sli

So I was all set to upgrade my 2500k to 6700k. I have 780 ti sli. Now I'm thing I would be better of selling the 780 ti's

As someone that owns a 2500k @ 4.4ghz, I too care about the topic. I think you'll be ok with the 780ti SLI, but you might be reaching the point where you should upgrade. For any single GPU you don't need to upgrade. The only way I saw myself upgrading was if I went high end SLI. Even then it wouldn't really hold me back.

I dont understand why you guys think that going to higher end graphics cards are more likely to cause a bottleneck? It would only be if the graphics was trying to push frame rates that the CPU couldnt keep up with, easy way to test this is to set all the graphics options to the lowest settings and see how high the FPS can go before the CPU is bottlenecking.

I don't think it will be a bottleneck but he could get like 3-5% more fps with a better CPU or a i7. Also, his CPU is 3+ years old. I'm not suggesting he buy a new one but if he has the means to...
Personally, since I made the decision to stick to one GPU systems my similar 2500k will last another 2 years before I see the need for upgrading due to gaming needs.

I think I would see more fps from upgrading to 980ti sli than I would from upgrading to 6700k. Am I right.

I can only afford gpu or cpu, not both. Recently went 780ti sli thinking I could 4k recent games but its not enough.

yes it would give you that frame rate, but depending on the game (in the case of being very CPU demanding, such as strategy games and whatnot), you could see a drop in FPS from time to time.

regarding the GPUs:

but like stated before, on CPU demanding games, you might have problems. even on a quad core @4.4GHz....

Thanks for the input guys. Trouble is those benchmarks are for 5930k with 980ti sli or 2500k with older 7950.

I'm just worried my mobo with pcie2.0 8x/8x won't be enough for the 980 ti sli.

Guess ill find out lol. I will probably end up upgrading cpu early next year anyway. 4k gaming is expensive.

??
no dude, the first benchmark i posted was for you to get a grasp at the frame rate of 980Ti in SLI at 4K. the other benchmarks were for you to see the performance of the 2500K.

but that is indeed the best option. If you are going to get the 980Ti SLI anyways, just test it in the current rig. If it suits you nice 😉 come back after to post the results and people can have more info!

4k gaming is also not worth it at the moment in my opinion.

Yeah cheers for the help guys. I already have a 4k tv and I'm so close to 4k@60. Plus playing in 3d @1080p can be very demanding to.

I have to sell the 780 ti's so probably be a couple weeks but ill definitely posts some benchmarks with the 2500k

if you can only buy 1, then get the gpu, your cpu is fine.
i mean, how much would things improve if you get a new cpu and not a gpu? how much if you get a gpu instead of a cpu?

also, keep in mind that you will buy a new mobo also if you upgrade your cpu
i still use my 2500k, it's older now but i don't think 4ghz and above is considered low. sure, i may not have sli, but a cpu like a 2500k is no slouch
