would a gaming os be possible?

why have a full feature os when you are only going to game? shouldnt there be some equivalent to a playstation or xbox os but for pc. basically a trimmed down os that only offers features that are relevant to gaming. anything else is not there.

game company valve launched gaming-focused steamos for pc. it is based on linux.
early beta version is out. it is still in development.

The whole point of SteamOS is to allow steaming of games. That is the one feature that will change the industry. Instead of buying a console for living room entertainment, you can build a small PC which allows you to bypass the repurchasing of an entire games library. It is designed for a customer with a gaming PC running windows (majority of the market) that wants to play games in a more casual, console-like, way. It is by no means designed for general use and is specialised purely as a secondary machine.
