A friend brought me a DELL PC because he wants to install an SSD. His PC is a DELL premade which only has 1 SATA power cable and 1 power connector for the optical drive, with 2 SATA data ports on the MOBO. The power connectors come from a cable connected to a 6pin port on the MOBO, which split into the aforementioned. In order to install an additional drive i would need to split the SATA power cable, i would guess with something like this:
SATA power cable splitter
What i want to know is if there's no problem with splitting the power from the original cable (The optical drive wouldn't be used anymore, as the sata data port would be for the SSD) and would that setup work?. Thank you in advance.
