Would an SSD filled to maximum/near capacity still perform better than a HDD

I was just wondering if an SSD filled to maximum capacity will perform good still and perhaps still better than an HDD. Reason why is because i am debating whether or not i want to do an SSD+HDD combo. SSD being for OS and most used programs and HDD for pictures and documents. If i switch to just an SSD it would be filled to 132gb out of 500 because that's how much is currently on my HDD.

Solution

Yes.
For a 500GB, I probably wouldn't go much over 400GB.
But with your current usage, you're fine.

And new drives can easily be added later as your space needs increase.

An SSD at full capacity means slower performance and shorter lifespan.
You need to leave minimum 10-15% free.

With todays drive space prices, either HDD or SSD, there is no reason to max out an SSD like that.

I also said near. If i was to clone my HDD over to the 500gb SSD it would take up 132 gb of 500. 10-15% would be around 50- 75 gb away from 500. So as long i don't go past 450 it would still be good? Not saying i would, i could probably see myself going to 250 and 300 would be probably the absolute max i would go. But lets say i were to go to 400-450, would it still perform good/better than an HDD giving great speeds?
