Would anyone be able to recommend a graphics card?

Hello guys im looking at upgrading my graphics card which is an nvidia gt 545 in my HP Pavilion HPE h8-1070uk , I have been having lots of problems actually finding a card that is compatible with my mobo. I have tried the gtx 750 TI from asus which would not let me boot past the blue hp screen and was recommended a MSI nvidia gtx 750 TI from someone over on the hp forums.but have since discovered that as i have bios version 7.12 that card wouldn't work as it requires a version 8 bios. I dont really feel like know where to go from here now as i have been looking online for a few weeks for a recommendation and have spoken to hp themselves only to be told they cant recommend a compatible GPU due to them not being able to support you with them.

I've read issues about HP rigs unable to boot with newer cards so you'll probably have to try your luck with older 500/600 series cards from Nvidia or the 6000 series from AMD from what I've read :S.

Hi thanks for the reply, I had been looking into the nvidia gtx 660 as it is said to be compatible but have since had alot of replies to say dont do it as although it sais it will work it doesn't. This is so frustrating lol i actually dont know what to do!

Yeah that's the problem since it's hard to tell if it will actually work, the 500 series cards definitely do work but the 600 cards are hit and miss ffrom what a friend of mine and I have seen (bought a GTX 650 but it refused to boot, even after fiddling with BIOS settings but my 550 Ti worked so he's using that) :S.

The 660 is on the compatibility list so it should work, it's really hard to say this point sadly.

Yea its really difficult!I cant seem to find anyone out there on the hp forums that can help me with it no one seems to know which is crazy and i cant seem to find anyone with the same pc who has upgraded their gpu. I know the problem can be fixed with a mobo upgrade but there is no way im going got be able to do that myself and i dont know anyone who is good with computers.

Yeah that would be a huge hassle, though you'd need a PSU upgrade too for a beefier card so that's another thing you'd have to keep in mind. From some of the instances I've read, some managed to get their systems to boot after switching from UEFI to legacy in the boot options. As of now I haven't seen a post with a 700 series card running on one of those older rigs.

If there's a local computer store (the ones which sell parts and build systems) then you could try your luck there since they might have some cards lying around test with. That's the big problem with some prebuilt systems, the hardware is perfectly compatible, it's just very odd that some OEM motherboards are locked down in this manner.

I mean i found this website that lists compatible cards for my mobo only i dont know if its correct or not.

I used that website as a reference as well but I'm still not too convinced lol. What I meant by legacy was the option under 'boot options' in BIOS which resolved some issues with certain systems with 600 series cards from not booting.

That legacy bios option does show up under boot options on my pc but if i were to select it and hit enter it doesn't do anything. I take it thats not meant to happen?

Hm then it's probably best to leave it, wouldn't want to accidentally change another setting.
