Hey there!

I plan to upgrade / replace my PC. I am using my PC mainly for gaming, playing on 2560x1440.

Well knowing that the graphics card is the most important asset, which is why I already changed it twice, this time I plan to change the CPU (Intel Core i7-6700K @ 4.00GHz) as it is quite outdated. I plan to keep my GPU (GeForce RTX 2080) as the prices of the newer cards are steep, and it still does the trick.

It would be great if you guys could check if this setup makes sense.

  • AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D Box AM5 (4,2GHz) 100-100000910WOF
    • Seems like a good gaming CPU, superior to the alternative I investigated 13700k
  • ASUS ROG STRIX X670E-F GAMING WIFI Mainboard AMD AM5
    • Quite an expensive motherboard, but it seems to have fast connections, and multipe m.2 slots which I like
  • Noctua NH-D15 Computer Kühlkomponente Prozessor Kühler 14 cm
    • Time proof CPU cooler. I don't want to mess with water cooling, I read too much horror stories where the water cooling was not maintained properly and bad things happened. I am not big maintenance guy.
  • Kingston Technology FURY Beast Speichermodul 64 GB 2 x 32 GB DDR5 5600 MHz
    • Not sure about those, just wanted 64 GB of RAM
  • Dark Base Pro 901 (schwarz)
    • My old PC case is still working, but I wanted to replace it since a long time. This one seems like a good long term solution, also for future big GPUs if needed. I plan to keep this for many many years
  • Be quietStraight Power 11 850W 80+ Platinum BN
    • As my old PC just needs to be salvaged of the GPU, I plan to leave it otherwise intact for other family members, therefore buying a new power module

Any feedback is welcome!

Thanks

For the motherboard, unless you have your heart set on the X670E-F Gaming WiFi, the MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk offers six sata headers, 2.5G ethernet, WiFi 6E, and a BIOS flash button for only 220 bucks. It's an excellent value for the money. ROG makes solid boards, but the Tomahawk is something to consider.

For RAM I would go with a different kit. The G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo has very low latency, high speeds, and is AMD Expo certified for maximum performance and compatibility. It's pretty much as good as it gets for AMD systems. The link I have provided is a 2x16 kit, but if you are looking for a 2x32 variation that is linked here. They are identical in all other facets.

You did not mention storage, but the Samsung 980 Pro is the way to go in my opinion. It isn't much more expensive than the 970 Evo, but has a noticeable performance bump.

Other than those recommendations, I think you are well on your way to a beefy system. The Ryzen 7800X3D is a monster of a CPU. Hope this helped, take care.
