i recently bought a gtx 1060 3gb for my pc , however i still have quite a weak processor (AMD A8 6600k) that i want to upgrade as it bottlenecks my graphics card , i was thinking about getting a i5 7500 processor . however i read up on a forum that ddr3 RAM may damage the cpu and that i would have to upgrade to ddr4 RAM , is this true .

i was also wondering if it wouldn't just be better to get and i3 7100 as its cheaper than the i5 and from what i read it performs well , i am also on a budget .

thanks <3

I wouldn't buy either of those Intels, I would buy a Ryzen 1500 or 1600. You need to upgrade to DDR4.

There are some Intel motherboards that support DDR3 but it is recommended that you only use DDR3L (low voltage) as normal DDR3 may damage the cpu after prolonged use.

i3's are no longer worth it

i5 7400 minimum for that gpu, and yes you will need ddr4 ram

I was thinking about going for a ryzen 1500x at first but i am on a budget of £130 and i read up that i can use my ddr3 ram 1600 mhz with the i3 7100 . I dont really need too good of a processor as i only really play games like COD, Cs and gta which ran alright when i had the amd a8 6600k with the nvidia gt 720 , which is a really bad graphics card xD .
