Hi - Just wondering whether my current PSU(500W) would be enough to power my new gtx 1080 Strix GPU, coming in a few weeks. I also am getting 6 new case fans, i currently have 1. Would this be enough, I am not getting anything else upgraded.
No, I would not recommend using that power supply with that graphics card. It is not a very capable unit, and it was meant for use with more mainstream machines, not with a gaming machine backed by a high tiered graphics card. I'd recommend something like this, at minimum.
500w is not enough information to determine that. One 500w unit can barely do 300w sustained while another can do 600w continuously. We need to know the model number. IF it's a VERY good 500w unit, it will probably, just be enough. If it is a mediocre or poor quality unit, it will definitely not be. The recommendation is for 550w but that is considering a good unit. Yours may not be.
Even a good mainstream 500w unit would probably be unwise. You want a really good 500w unit or an average 550-750w unit.
What is the model number of your unit. Look on the PSU label.
