Hi guys,

I was given an Intel Xeon E5-2687w (removed from an unused server). I wonder if this CPU works with the Asus Rampage IV Formula which I'm planning to get (I currently have the CPU, but yet to have the Mobo). Asus' CPU support list lists the closest brother: Xeon E5-2687w v2, but not the original.

If not, which single socket LGA2011 Mobo can run this chip?

I'm planning on doing a lot of multi-threaded render works, Calculation and playing some games like GTA V.

Thanks!

Are you sure? CPU-upgrade and Asus itself say otherwise. It's easy to be mistaken with the v2 of this processor.

Anyway, is there any risk when I use a 150w tdp CPU on a motherboard with the exact upper limit? (the x79s Mobos usually are of 70-150w tpd)

Thanks.
