Would this be a decent PC?

Hey guys, I'm pretty new to the whole PC gaming world and I'm currently building a PC so I just wanted some input from people who know more than me. I was gaming on an ASUS Gamers Republic laptop with a Nvidia GTX 860M, but it wasn't giving me the FPS / Quality I wanted. But anyways I just wanted some input on my current specs, If there are any problems I might deal with. I'm hoping to run games like GTA V, Far Cry 4, Dyling Light on high / ultra with 60 or more FPS.

CPU : AMD FX8320 3.5GHZ
GPU : GIGABYTE RADEON R9 290X
RAM : 8GB
HD : 1TB
PSU : 850w

I'm not sure about the mother board, the guy who's putting all these parts together told me he will get me a motherboard that's upgradable in the future and told me it would be around $120. I don't plan on overclocking. Would the CPU / GPU be a good mix?

Your specs will be maxing out all the games out in the market in 1080p. I would recommend though of getting a good case with fans for better airflow because r9 290x can get very hot.
One thing i want to change is cpu. I would rather get a locked i5 for cpu intensive games. It would almost be same price to fx 8320

Thank you for the input guys. But now I have more questions. Why is the i5 4590 better than the FX8320?
The FX8320 has 8 cores at 3.5 GHZ when the i5 4590 has 4 cores at 3.3 GHZ. I thought the more cores and GHZ it had the better it was, but like I said I'm fairly new to this stuff so I could definitely be wrong. Also, I've already ordered the r9 290x, but looking at the GTX970 now and It would've been a better option.

Okay I understand exactly what you're saying, thanks for the examples. So what is the point of the extra cores then? How can we benefit from those?
And if I did end up getting the fx-8320, would I have FPS issues? I don't want the CPU to hold back the GPU.
