The 980 Ti is pretty overpriced where I live due to taxes, vat etc. (as are other cards and pc components)

Reference design is €739 which is $831.63.

If I did decide to get an 980 Ti, would an i7 4790k be able to keep up in sli/crossfire?

I wont be buying two together, this is for down the line when/if the card becomes much cheaper and the main reasons im asking is if its not going to bottleneck, ill be buying an 850w PSU, if it is likely to bottleneck ill be getting a 750w PSU as the estimated wattage on PCpartpicker with two 980 Ti's along with my other components is 717w or somewhere near that, cant remember the exact number but it was above 700 and under 750.

I don't expect to use two 980 Ti's for a very long time as the performance is already amazing, but if it does start to lack in performance combining two (if it becomes cheaper) would probably be a good idea since DX12 is from what I hear are going to be combining VRAM.

Thanks,
Joey.

It's pretty hard to bottleneck a 4790k, as it's a much better processor than a lot of people think and definitely overkill for most of the builds that it is used in, for example mine (lol). To put things into perspective, the AMD FX-9590 is about on par with the i5-4690k. The 4790k has 2x the number of threads than the 4690k and has a 0.5GHz higher base and turbo clock.

1080p but it's capable of displaying 144 Hz, I know its kind of overkill for 1080p which is why im still debating if im going to buy it or not since the money is there, I just dont feel too happy dropping €740 on a GPU. The 970 is a good card, its just I expect games to use more than 3.5 gigs pretty soon, like GTA V could easily go over that even on 1080p if everything is or near maxed. The 980 and 980 Ti are similar prices where I live which pretty much out rules an 980.

Thanks everyone for all the helpful info!

you guys say future proof but since the 4790k outshines the hell out of a ps4/xbox one and it took them 10 years to upgrade from the previous console. Also taking into consideration that dx12 is coming out which will give intel even more torque, and haswell-e processors unfathonable speeds. would you agree your pretty safe for a pretty smooth ride? (unless your ambitious and want those 10 extra frames /cache/etc. And cant stand to see someone with better computer than yours )but a good 5-10 years none the less. (Sorry for typos on mobile 😛

(I did not realise this was an old thread, at the time of posting)

99% of console games are made on PC's. I don't think a lot of people understand that. However, comparing the two is wrong. They're A/V consoles not strictly for gaming. Especially the Xbox One which implemented the TV feature, which menu is many times more accurate, and faster than any TV box directly connected to a TV is. They've achieved a lot, and graphics and framerate isn't everything. Point is, those that say that consoles are limiting PC's, are flat out wrong. Also, those that think they can match a consoles performance, and stay ahead over the years, are also wrong. Technically you can't make these comparisons, but since you brought it up... Anyways, facts are important. Always go with facts and not opinion. PC games graphics requirements have went up at least double over the course of just a few years. You'll be spending quite a bit to stay ahead at playable framerates...

You could just use one of the 980ti's and send me the other. That would be very satisfying for both of us
