Would upgrading the amount of Memory in a Laptop help the Integrated Graphics Card?

Hi Everyone,

This is my laptop firstly: http://www.dabs.ie/products/lenovo-b5400-intel-core-i5-4200m-4gb-1tb-15-6--windows-7-professional-64-bit-99XY.html?q=lenovo%20b5400&src=16

As you can see there is 4GB pre-installed in my system and I have a 4th Generation CPU with Intel HD 4600 up-to 2GB (Shared with Memory). So since if the GPU actually used the 2GB fully, the system would only be running a application/game on 2GB of memory, which is obviously not enough. So if I upgrade the memory to 8GB by buying another 4GB module of memory, it would improve overall smoothness in the OS while running applications/games right? Since it would have more breathing space with the extra 4GB....

Am I seeing this correctly?

Thanks for anyone who answers/reads :)

Solution
It's actually 1.7gb not 2gb, but they round up. It wouldn't be using 1.7gb, it's just too weak to hardly push 1gb. That leaves 3gb for the rest which might be on the edge. If you check ram usage you can make sure if ram amount is really an issue. Adding another stick would give you dual channel which would help.

By upgrading the ram the games will run faster but since you only have an igp you won't really notice it. Plus igp are not made for games. If you are playing games at min settings then yes you might notice it in some games. The uphand of more ram is it can multi task more as it can put more programs in ram. To increase the speed of load up times get a ssd of you can. That will boost loading times of the os and program startups.

It's not false info, it can use that much but it just won't because it doesn't need to. You see when you raise the graphics settings it uses more vram, at low settings it won't use much and since it's so weak you can only play on lower settings. It has so much for multi monitor purposes, not gaming. Adding ram would only help performance if you are using all of your ram. Having more ram does nothing if it is not needed.

All the games that I play, e.g. Sims 4, Minecraft.... All run highest settings no issues at all. The advancements in Integrated GPU's is crazy and since mine is current gen, it can game decently, for my needs anyway. So basically more ram will speed up the computers multi-tasking and make it snappier....
