Just curious as to just who, out there, would actually purchase an AMD CPU if they were to create an 8-core (quad module) FX series based on the Steamroller or Excavator architectures.

I'm still running a Phenom II 955BE@4.0, and am in the market to upgrade and most likely going with a 4790K, but, honestly, if there were an updated FX, I would probably give it a go. Just seeing if anyone else would.

In a year or 2 maybe. I'm right now on a system with the gigabyte 970a-ud3, fx 8120 bulldozer chip clocked to 4.2ghz and a Radeon 7850. Built things about late 2012 January 2013. Been happy with it really, no need to upgrade cpu, especially with my overclock. Would like better single core performance but feel like right now, even going to like an fx 8320 or 8350 would not be a substantial upgrade. So would depend also on their performance. I want to stay with amd as they've always been good bang for buck, I'm hearing fx coming back possibly in 2016 on some kind of unified socket. Don't ask me if those rumors are true. I'm holding right now with my build and then if they don't deliver a good platform, after 17 years as an amd fan, may have to look at the blue team.

If it came with integratred GPU similar or equal to an R9 270X then yes totally, since the a10 7850k CPU is as fast as an fx 6300 already but the GPU isnt that good still, it's better than any Intel GPU though but not good enough for full ultra settings gaming. If it had at least an R9 equivalent GPU integrated and a 6 or 8 core CPU then surely it would be as fast as an FX 8350. This would mean that a 6 or 8 core steamroller = FX-8350 + R9 270X but all together at a lower price and with a TDP of probably 125w which would be totally perfect. If this were to become true with a 6 or 8 core Steamroller then yes I would totally buy it without second thoughts.

Id buy one on the spot if they had one for AM2+

Id rather buy a 6 module 12 thread one tho, on am2+

Any newer sockets and i would need a new motherboard. So, that would depend on performance. Who knows what excavator will bring, its not out yet.
