Hi mates,

I currently have 8gb of DDR3 in my system installed, and I use my PC mainly for video editing with Adobe Premiere. Everything works flawlessly with 1080p video, but when I sometimes need to edit projects including 4k-footage, everything becomes choppy and laggy. This is only my hobby and I am not so kinda "professional or expert" so there's no option such as buying new PC, but what I am asking for is that would it be worth to upgrade to 16 gigs of RAM? Would it help me with heavy 1080p/4k projects? Would it make Premiere run smoother etc? I have found a very good offer from Kingston Savage 16gb kit (2x8gb). All the others specs are below.

Thanks a lot for help!

Core i5 4460
GTX 970
250gb SSD+1tb HDD
8gb of RAM currently

Solution
If you can get it within whatever budget you have go for it. 16GB is rapidly becoming the entry level and apps will continue to want and use more and more DRAM - Games too for that matter 😉
Depends, when your running an doing that program is your ram usage topping out at 100% or in the 90s. If yes then, yes upgrade. If its not capping out your ram, Then its not the rams fault for the chop an lag. Open up the task to manager an run the program like you would an see.

Hi and thanks for a very quick reply. Right now I don't have any projects under work, but I tried to record some test footage in 4k, and two 4k-clips on the timeline were enough to jump the memory usage on task manager up to 65%. So does this tell that ram is making the problem or what? In a full project there will be from 30 to 250 clips.
