Just my 2 cents....

about the better visuals. So far almost every flickering texture and whatnot came from the game developers and not the video card.....

when i switched from my X1900XT to my 8800GTX i noticed that all the glitches i had before(not saying its a ton but i NEVER had any when i started back with windows 98 and a TNT2). I honestly thought this was a issue with the X1900XT.

In the end it seems that game developers are just getting lazy, or both companies are taking the same shortcuts....other than that most games look very similar....

but the flickering....ohhh it hurts my eyes.....but then again hellgate(once game thats has allllllot of funky glitches) is just a giant never ending beta....but a friend wanted me to play with them....so hellgate it is....

I replaced a 7950gx2 with a Radeon 3870 x2 and the image quality and rich colors blew me away.
The 3870 x2 has better image quality IMHO. Your results may vary.

Again you are comparing a last-gen nvidia card with a current-gen ATI card. I'd expect the ATI card to look better, especially considering the 7 series IQ wasn't great to start with.

OK EVERYONE READ - 8800GT vs 3870 (Image Quality):
http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews/3870-XXX/IQ.php

YES, I know you can't rely on screenshots...judge yourself...i can barely see a difference - but if I had to pick a side..I think the 8800GT looks more refined around the edges on most of the screenshots

IMO: Nvidia 8-gen users need to do this: Nvidia Control Panel->Adjust desktop color setings->digital vibrance (25-30%) ....than you aren't missing anything by not going ATI....just my opinion...

they look the same people...

I can really see the difference in the oblivion one,if you look around you can tell the nvidia has more of a white wash across it.I didn't look at any others, will try when i have time.

zoom into the pictures and look at the edges...i think the 8800GT is barely a little more refined..imo - no?

BTW: HL and Oblivion were basically made for ATI -- so that doest surprise me. But look at the first Oblivion picture and check out the stones placed on the first steps going around the statue. The Nvidia one is diffently better...the lines between the stones show up much cleaner (the gaps are clearer and more defined) on the nvidia than the ati. you see what i am talking about?

I still think overall its the same thing.

I have seen this comparison before, and in oblivion nvidia IQ is generally better, although the wall in the second comparison looks a little clearer on the ATI card. The ATI card is often overbright on the ground (actually both are bad, but that's just oblivion). However, I would rather play the game than just look at screenshots.

hmm i think ill stick with Nvidia, i hate digital vibrance it makes colour look unatural, and if ati looks like it has it on all the time im gonna stay well away...

meh. thats besides the point i was trying to convey - but oka. just meant that some games look better with ATi , others with nvidia. but overall, its the same.

I found that playing Crysis with a HD2900 Pro and a 8800GT, the HD2900 gave a much cleaner and photo-realistic experience... although suffering from seriously poor FPS... whereas the 8800GT still looked good, but lacked the edge visuals wise... but gave better performance by quite a margin.

I'd love to go back to ATi but none of their cards are tempting me...
If the 9800's arent upto much though, I'll be jumping ship again to ATi and getting some serious overclocking done.

I'll double ditto this, unless your a videophile I don't think you'll notice a visual quality difference. I've used 2 ATI's(8500 and 9800PRO) and now have a 8800GT. Personally the only thing I've noticed is the fact each time I upgrade I can enable more effects at higher resolutions. In that sense it looks better, but not the actually picture quality.

It sounds more like a direct contradiction to the point you were making IMO.
