Write Protect?

I've got a bunch of photos to send out to family members and want to use flash drives if possible. I can get drives that are big enough at a really good price. A major plus is that CDs or DVDs get scratched and USB drives dont.

I'd like to write protect the drives, but the ones I'm looking at buying don't have a write protect switch. I know that I can make the files read only, but is there any way to prevent files from being deleted or the drive from being formatted?

Maybe i'm grasping at straws and need to go the extra mile by getting drives with write protect switches and adding a drop of superglue to protect these family photos.
