Write protected of memory card

What is it with all these questions about memory card write protection all of a sudden?

If it's an SD or SDHC memory card, make sure the write protect slide is positioned toward the end of the card that has the metal contacts:

Is there anything else that can be done because i have tried that a thousand times and it is not working with a brand new sdhc card
