Hey guys, I live in the UK and ordered a seasonic S12II 620W 80+ bronze PSU. However, It came with a 2 prong socket (type E/F) rather than the rectangular 3 prong socket (type G) that UK plugs use. Is it possible to order a type G kettle lead and use it for this PSU? This is my first time building a PC and I don't want to screw anything up!

Solution
The cable is rated 13a as its a UK manufactured cable - 13a is the theoretical safe maximum you can draw from a UK wall socket - that equates to over 2.5 kilowatt.
Perfectly safe - as tea urchin said ,a lot of the pound shops will stock these cables - they'll have a British kite stamp meaning they're 100% safe.

A 2 pin moulded cable won't have an earth in the cable itself - that's why its a bad idea.

A PC PSU in the UK needs an earth connected to be safe - full stop.

Yeah those would do. I am wondering, however, if it's possible to get a different cable altogether, or is that ill-advised (something like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/3m-Kettle-Lead-Moulded-Coloured/dp/B00481DRC0/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1427910551&sr=8-2-fkmr1&keywords=seasonic+kettle+lead) ?

Have you tried contacting the retailer? It should come with an appropriate power lead, as it's reasonable to expect all leads to be correctly localised (and ultimately it's their responsibility under the Sale of Goods Act - you shouldn't be out of pocket ordering another one!).

So long as it's got the right fuse in it, I don't see why not ...

HI

Assuming a UK supplier you should have got a UK plug (BS1363)
Ask supplier for a replacement PC to 13A plug & cable

If this was a portable appliance then that is a legal requirement to supply a UK mains plug . I am not sure about a component such as a psu

Don't use a eu to 13A plug adapter as some are fake and not as good quality as genuine adapters

Is there any chance that it could ruin my PSU or not work? The Polish plug that came with my PSU says 16A when the kettle lead on amazon is 13A

Hi

Some iec to 13A plug and cable have a cable rated at 13A and have a 13A bs 1362 fuse
You need a 5A fuse in the plug , it does not matter if the cable is rated at 5, 10 or 13 A Provided a 5A not 13 A fuse is fitted in the plug

The Amazon one seems ok has a 5 A fuse and having a ASTA approved plug is a bonus.

The iec plug used for computers is slightly different from version used in electrical kettle leads which have to stand upto high temperatures
