To me graphics are at a very good level still, even on such old hardware. So, no matter if the new consoles aren't up to par with PC's, they're still going to be at least 3 times more powerful than current consoles and that is a good leap. Pure visuals aren't as interesting as they were before, it's more about more complicated math, better physics, more natural A.I., more complex open worlds with more happening at any single point in time. The graphics will be improved alot, D3D 11.1 support is proof enough, and a lesson for pure PC gamers, Devs get more juice out of console hardware than PC hardware in case for some dumb reason you've never noticed, so what is probably a 7770 on a console, is like what we get out of a 7970, for example.

Nope, because Rockstar would have announced GTA V for the new platform, but they said it will be Xbox360 & PS3, so there probably won't be a new Playstation.

Any news about these next gen consoles having SSD's?? I am praying they do because I would love to have my console boot up as quickly as my iPad and Surface...

if they had SSDs wed all have to give up on the idea of an affordable next gen console. Itll probably still use laptop HDDs.

But if consoles are only updated every decade, well, mid-range gaming PCs will surpass them within 3-6 years. And a decade is an eternity in the software/hardware industry.

this is not interesting... the only interests me is, consoles are started using x86 hardware, that means good for PC community in the long run... cheeerrss.

The one major thing I want out of this generation of consoles is improved load times, after being spoiled with optimized 3.5" drives and more recently my SSD, I can't stand waiting for a game like GTA IV to load on a console.

Just under 3 weeks and the speculation will be over!! I'm starting to think it will come out earlier than Holiday season... say sometime in Q3 to have a few months head start over Xbox 720.

Way too many mindless console bashing.... I always play games on my PC and just use my Ps3 for the exclusives. Exclusive PS3 games still look better than %90 of the PC games out there.

If you have a monster gaming PC, obviously most games will look better but many people don't have that.

All this "hardware gap" talk is retarded. Consoles are perfectly optimized which is impossible for PCs. Even current console graphics are nearly on par with PC's that are 10 times more powerful... That's because developers only have to deal with a specific configuration and they don't have to make their game compatible with a billion different configurations....

It's obvious what Sony and MS is trying to do with this gen. The hardware specs may not be impressive but it means that the next gen consoles will be dirt cheap. Second hand gaming will be impossible, which will make them a ton of money from selling games, so console price will pretty much be irrelevant.

Economically it's just not viable anymore to make consoles so often. And the MAJORITY of people care more about software improvements... Seriously you can never, ever compare the XBOX 360 experience of now, to the one we had back in 2005. That's why they're lasting so long, and the next gen will do the same, a decent upgrade on hardware, with endless possibilities on the sofware front.

It's all about who are my best customers..and you have to have some integrity to admit, the ones who care so much about specs, are the minority, and by a large margin.

Agreed. Media=Money. This generation only needs to have enough wow to matter until the next cycle when HS internet penetration will be good enough to serve the games, at which point the gpu will be less taxed.

[citation][nom]blubbey[/nom]Here's the thing. In 2011 at ECGC Nvidia predicted a 10x increase in GPU power by 2015 - http://www.gamersnexus.net/news-in [...] gc-keynote . Let's assume it's about a 6-7x increase in today's power by 2016. A 7750 is about 4x the power of a 360. Although it's not the best comparison, I'll use TFLOPS to compare power. 6-7x that will be 6-7TFLOPS (ish). Consoles will probably be 1.2-2 TFLOPS. 3 years after the new consoles will be released the hardware gap will be similar to, if not more than what it is now, almost 8 years after their release. If it's ~2020 release for the next next consoles then..... Yeah.Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to them releasing but I'm not exactly excited at this moment in time. I want to see hardware specs.[/citation]

Regardless, as a practical matter eye candy will be bottle-necked by the next consoles' performance. The on-paper differences between hardware now and hardware in 2005 is seriously mind-blowing -- but does anyone really believe that current PC games deliver graphics that are 6 times better than they were then? Hard to quantify the subjective, but still.

[citation][nom]iam2thecrowe[/nom]AMD GPU? hopefully we dont have driver issues and microstuttering.[/citation]

It's a single GPU. Apparently you don't understand the fundamentals of microstutter.

Actually you are incorrect. There is the APUs integrated gpu and the discrete gpu, but regardless, this shouldn't be an issue, hence the Sony patent...
