Hello Im looking for a nice cpu to hold me off until zen arrives next year. I recently bought a gtx 970. I was thinking some am3+ cpu 6300 and upwards of a good intel cpu for cheap. Budget is $150-200 depending on the cpu, mobo combo. The cheaper it is the better. If the mobo is a mini or micro it a big plus.
If you have something you want to offer send me PM.

If you're willing to go over the budget, you can get an i5-4590 for $160 at micro-centre and an asrock h97m-itx/ac for $72 at newegg after mail-in rebates. The i5 will be superior to anything amd has to offer at the moment, and you might not need to change the cpu when zen arrives. I know people who recently upgraded to a gtx 980 while still rocking an i5-2500 and it runs just fine.

Getting the fx-6300 and overclocking it on am3+ mobo like an asus m5a97 is also good. But if you plan to get zen cpu, that would also mean getting a new am4 mobo.

I know intel will probably still be superior to amd zen cpu but i do want to support amd. I like the company, will take a look at the i5. I have no problem going with used cpu and mobo it will probably be replaced next year.

Consider this Intel based value oriented build for pretty good gaming experience:

Check this recent video to allay your worries about the so called often misused term "Bottleneck" - Intel Core i3 vs i5 vs i7 Gaming Benchmarks

The above video used the GTX 980 with all the processors.Yes, there are some games where the i3 may perform with 8-10 FPS behind i5. But that doesn't mean "Bottleneck". You use that term only when your CPU struggles and performs consistently producing lower frames in most of the games.

But with i3 that's not the case. Its a value oriented stellar performer on budget, will serve you for good at least you move on to Skylake/Zen with ease.

Update:

The reason why I didn't suggest you a H81 Chipset based motherboard is that it may not be able to recognize the Haswell Refresh processors i3/i5/i7 or even the G3258 without BIOS update.

If you think that's not a problem and can update the BIOS of H81 based motherboard either by borrowing a CPU from someone or get it done by a PC Technician, then you can very well go for i3/G3258 + H81 combo.

Also for G3258 overclocking you don't need a third party cooler. The default cooler that comes with this processor is the same as the one shipped for i5/i7 processors, will do a fine job. You can easily overclock it to 3.8-4.0 on H81 motherboards, using the default cooler.

So consider either of these builds, provided you are ok with the matter discussed above:

Cheers!

Yeah, i could pair it with a cheap h81 mobo from amazon. You can find them used for less than $35. My initial idea was to get a g3258 and oc. but the cost of the cooler alone will put me in i3 territory. Then again once i have a good cooler i can use it for my next upgrade.

the cpu and 99fx combo deal is fantastic, i run a 8350 over clocked for awhile, wouldnt of upgraded but i pretty much got a free 2500 dollar pc lol....... but thats a great deal id jump on it..... actually only notice slight performance increase with my new i5 4690k.... and it really only shows in gaming beleive it or not, or in benchmarks.

but i loved my 8350, i gave it to my g/f paird with ur gtx 780 it destroys anything at 1080

I think the guy sold it, im trying to contact him but nothing. I do love Amd and if dx12 news are true 6 core and 8 cores cpu should see bump in performance. Idont know if i should get a g3258 and a cheap z97. I does have future upgrade path. Rumors put zen coming out at the end of 2016 or 2017.

I already bought a gtx 970 amd a good psu. I want to save as much money as posible. I guy is selli g me this rig for 300 i can oosibly get it for less.
Fx6300
Gygabite 78LMT-USB3 mATX
12Gb ram i dont knew the brand but they have big heatsinks
640gb hdd
120Ssd
Nice colermaster case
Ultra 550w psu
7870 2gb gpu.
Im thinking i could sell the gpu and psu and make about 100.

I have exactly what you may need. AMD phenom ii x6 1090T six core plus a micro board MSI 890 GXM g65. have other parts if you are interested
