Well it makes, sense and as the barrier between system and VPU resources lowers even further with PCI-EX, it makes more and more sense. It is a powerful second processor, where if it's not being used could be handy for things like picture and video work (which don't require much VPU power).
I did find it funny that they made the standard the R3XX and the nV3X without a caveat, considering I don't think ANYONE would consider the FX5200 up to the task, but perhaps it's utilised in such a way as to be of some use, just seems unlikely, considering that they mention it requires a 'reasonably powerful enough' vpu to do the job.
I can think of nothing better than opening up a few more PCI-EX slots for graphics cards for multi-monitor support, that at the same time would allow you to increase the power of your editing rig. Now not only would it be handy to have 3 monitors for video editing (preview, tools, output/master), now it will help in the raw data crunching too. Very Cool!
I guess it flies in the face of this old thread as to the direction of Graphics cards, etc.;
