:mmmfff:

Pastor of church that burned Koran calls Afghan mob killings 'very tragic'

After first promising to not burn the Koran, Florida Pastor Terry Jones sat as judge at a 'trial' for the holy book last month. The Koran was 'found guilty and a copy was burned,' a church press release said. That news apparently incited the attack on a U.N. compound.

The Dove World Outreach Center is a small nondenominational church in Florida that reportedly has no more than a few dozen members. The church website describes it as a "New Testament Church — based on the Bible, the Word of God."

According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks groups espousing intolerance, the 25-year-old church in Gainesville regularly professes anti-gay and anti-Muslim sentiments, with members at one point joining in an anti-gay rally with the Westboro Baptist Church, the group that brings signs that say "God Hates" homosexuals to military funerals.

Now news of the church's burning of a Koran has apparently incited a mob in Afghanistan to attack a U.N. compound there, killing at least eight foreign staffers.

Last year, the pastor of the church, Terry Jones, had announced he would burn a Koran on Sept. 11. The announcement drew worldwide condemnation, including remarks by President Obama, who in a nationally televised interview asked Jones to reconsider, saying the burning could lead to "serious violence" against American troops in Muslim nations.

Later, Jones said on the "Today" show that he had changed his mind, and would not burn the holy book, saying he had successfully exposed the more radical strains of Islam.

"We will definitely not burn the Koran, no," he said, adding that he would "absolutely guarantee" that there would never be a Koran burning at his church.

Instead of proliferating hate with yer buds at Westboro, Reverend, feel free to study up on how The Books of Abraham and Moses are incorporated into multiple religions (instead of rousing the rabble, you freakin' demagogue).

Any religious figure who inspires hate through any form of media should be jailed ... that would clean up most of your readical extremists.

Get them off the street and growing vegetables ...

i'll have to check a few thousand post myself just to be sure I don't get on that list though ... as I have had a few mindless rants myself.

Yeah but then some media outlet probably offered him 10 times as much to burn it.

People will do anything for money.

Well I draw the line at running down the street naked with a rolled up newspaper hanging out of my butt and one end alight though ...

That is not worth $20 ... trust me.

I agree reynod. Inciting religious fervor through an act of hatred is disgusting. Regardless of your opinion of Islam and the Koran, it is a book that is held in high esteem by billions of people across the world and should be treated with respect. Yes, the pastor has the right to do it, but just because you have the right to do something doesn't mean that you should do it.

OK. Let's look at this ...

A lunatic preacher burns a book in Florida. Halfway around the world, Muslims, believers in the Religion of Peace, go on a rampage and kill innocent Westerners who:
A. Were mostly non-U.S. citzens,
B. Had nothing to do with the burning anyway, and
C. Were there to help the people.

Yes, indeed. Makes perfect sense.

The same thing has happened over rumors of Quranic desecration.

This preacher did an interview wiyth Sean Hannity on his SiriusXM radio show.

My conclusion after listening to his rambling logic; this guy does not deserve any more attention than he already has gotten.

This thread should be locked and closed.

Regarding the Muslims who rioted, supposedly, in response to the Koran burning, I wonder how they would react if Americans looted and pillaged a mosque every time we see them burn an American flag?

The whole situation is totally FUBAR!

Pastor Terry Jones of Florida sparked riots in Muslim countries Saturday by burning a copy of the Koran. He announced Tuesday that he's going to hold a mock trial for the Prophet Mohamed. The U.S. government has called on him to move the trial to Guantanamo.

So some lunatic thousands of miles away burns a book and calls Islam a violent religion, Muslims go on a rampage and kill people? That'll certainly prove to people that Islam is peaceful. As much as I dislike what the pastor did, they're certainly proving his point.

I agree with Genny. If Muslim LEADERS don't quickly make very clear and very public that the old message "Convert, be subjugated, or be killed" is obsolete, and Islam can co-exist with different- and non-believers AS EQUALS in the secular world, then best efforts should be made to eradicate Islam, having shown itself to be a cancer.
The pastor may be an idiot, but the pot calling the kettle black doesn't mean that the kettle is white.

You can apply the post above to quite a few religions and secular groups as well. It has nothing to do with a religion or text or anything like that, just humans doing what they have and always will do.

That's certainly true, but in this day and age you typically don't have Mormons killing in the name of Mormonism. For the record, I believe all religion does more harm than good as a whole.

Very true Genny. Throughout the past 2000 years who knows how many hundreds of millions of deaths have been caused by religion in general, i.e. the Crusades, the French Wars of Religion (series of wars in the 16th century, I believe), the 30 Years War, and the Taiping Rebellion. Those alone were just over Christianity. In reference to Judaism, one can not forget the Holocaust and the various other harsh treatment that the Jews received for the centuries prior. Islam has seen countless jihads over the centuries as well.

Point being, there is no denying that religion has killed more people than it has saved.
