I know, X470 has better overall features, but I'm sure either board will be fine for my use, except the fact the Gigabyte Gaming 5 offers more/better connections via PCIe (x16/x0, x8/x8) and has a better M.2 setup, whereas the Asus Strix is only x16 and can't use the other slot while x16 is in use (at least I think). Oh and the Gigabyte has Wifi and Bluetooth (both I like but will not mind buying my own card for this and using the Strix).
The problem is, is that I ordered the Strix and the next day ordered the Gaming 5 as well with the intention of returning the Strix, but after looking at a number of reviews I'm not so sure that's a good idea. I've read a few bad reviews of each board (might not mean much), and found that overall each one has a poor VRM. I will be running a 2600X and do plan to upgrade to the next gen as I already wanted the 2700X but figured the 2600X will hold me over. If the next get requires a significant power difference that makes one of these two boards obsolete then I don't have a problem buying another one. The X470 Taichi was only $5 more than the Gaming 5, after a $25 mail in rebate, which if I didn't already accidentally buy the other board, I would have gotten (can't explain what the difference is to the wife).
I read some people having problems with the Gaming 5's BIOS where the primary BIOS failed and they had to use the backup BIOS as there's no way to recover the original, and using the back up is an inconvenience as it does not keep your settings saved, which means that you do not want to restart often as it creates a hassle of re-entering the settings you have changed. I haven't read this problem about the Strix, only that it doesn't have a good VRM, and I don't like the Fact I cannot use more than one PCIe slot.
CAN SOMONE WITH ONE OF THESE PLEASSEEE:
If anyone has any experience with either of these boards can you please share your experience?!?! Which board will better for RAM speeds since overclocking the 2600X is not as important.
It really seems like most of the reviews out there are from people that have had a bad experience and feel the urge to post on the interwebs about it, and people with good experience don't really care to share, or don't think about it as they're just cruising along on their great new system.
I just want a decent motherboard that I can overclock the RAM on and get the most speed out of. I bought 3200 C14 Flare X so I can have a snappy little computer.
WHICH ONE SHOULD I KEEP??? Which one would YOU keep?
