[SOLVED] X570 motherboard unable to boot with RAM in dual channel configuration ?

Hey, this is my first post here. I always used this site to troubleshoot issues soo here i am needing help again!

I have this issue with an old motherboard in one my pcs and i suddenly decided years later to give it another go to figure out what's up. ever since i first got it out of the box i was never able to run it in dual channel. only 2 ram sticks in single channel. This boggled my mind till I forgot about it and just moved on without going thru any warranty process. I've swapped the ram sticks around and tested it on another build and they work just fine but whatever I do. I never got to get dual channel to boot.

Things I've tried:
- xmp off
- reseating cpu
- checking for bend pins
- trying different ram sticks
- loosening screws slightly of the motherboard
- reapplying thermal paste
- checking any screw are touching the motherboard causing shorting
- cleaning the ram slots

honestly, im just throwing this out there as a last resort. i intend to give that pc a new update but i wanna have another go at resolving this issue before i decide to buy another motherboard all together.

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated :)

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

What ram kit are you trying to work with? What ram slots are you trying to populate with said ram kit?

When posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to include your full system's specs. Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time(if you can recall what BIOS is on the board).

Hey thanks for the reply.

Currently the only way I can get a boot is with ram slots A1/A2. For dual channel A2 / B2 I get my fans spinning really fast and nothing.

CPU: ryzen 3600 (stock)
CPU cooler: noctua dh-14
Motherboard: msi x570 gaming wifi
Ram: vengeance 2x8 3200mhz
SSD/HDD: samsung evo 860 and 870
GPU: rtx 2080 msi gaming trio x
PSU: corsair tx750m
Chassis: nzxt h5
OS: windows 11
Monitor: llyama g master gb2760qsu 144hz

I checked the bio version; its from 20/4/2020 . i could try updating that if there is a new version

EDIT: just updated the bios and tried reseating ram in different slots. Still no post

Ouch. If that is the trace in the PCB that's going to one of the RAM slots that's probably why it doesn't work. Maybe the trace is totally cut in the top layer? Can't quite make it out from the photo. You can put a drop of transparent fingernail polish on it and cover the scrach to prevent further damage by moisture and rust, corrosion and so on.

Which exact MSI X570 Gaming WiFi? The exact model name should be printed on the board.

If the trace is gone (which is likely as the RAM slot is not working) and you can't use that slot and if you can only use/boot with A1/A2 that means no dual channel, as you said.

You said it's not a new board, right? So RMA process and warranty don't apply? Mind you if it was under warranty I'm not sure they'd RMA the board if they thought you scratched it during assembly or later on.

Might be time to get a new board for that PC, unless you're happy with single channel performance.

Yeah I think I messed that up badly haha. Seems like a tedious soldering job too. I think I should be using plastic tipped screw drivers from now on for extra caution... I'm already looking for a new mb for it. I got a 5800x3d on the way. Might pair it with a second hand b550 i can find.

You mean you want to try and solder that? I wouldn't. There are several conductive copper traces seperated by layers of nonconductive material. You might cause a short and the board would be totally bricked. I personally would leave it be.

That should work.

Hmm.. would that risk taking the hardware along with it? I got a friend with bit more experience looking into on thursday. He said that it looks more like a surface scratch cutting the ram trace. But I have to wait and hear if it's hopeless or not...

Yes it can and if traces are shorted as soon as the board is powered it might ruin the board and/or other hardware on it, namely RAM modules as that seems to be a trace going to the RAM slot.

As I said before it can't be seen from the photo if it's a surface scratch or a deep one where copper trace/s are severed. It needs a good magnifying glass and a light to see if it can be somehow fixed.

It's good to have a hands-on look if he knows what he's doing. Things is you'd need the CPU and at least one RAM module to see if it POSTs. That's kind of risky. Hope it goes well.
