x58 MB support Xeon?

Hi, I have an Asrock x58 "supercomputer" MB. I would like to upgrade to fastest possible CPU. I thought I could use Xeon w3690, but it seems that Xeon CPUs are not supported by this MB? What I've read online seems to say both, that they are supported with x58 mb, and that they are not. But Asrock's specs for this MB only mention i7 as compatible. Can anyone confirm one way or the other? If not, I will go with i7 980x. Many thanks.

Yeah, like anything that wasn't made in great numbers... used X58 boards in good condition are scarce now and are going for as much as they were new. High end ones like yours are especially coveted. Was yours bought new (one owner)?

I've got a Xeon W3670, but it is in a Dell Precision Workstation that I can't OC...
Thanks very much for your response. I'd been on that very specs page, but didn't see the tab for supported CPUs. I actually have the Xeon now, but hadn't installed it.

It's always been a solid motherboard, but I didn't realize there would still be any demand for them. Are they tough to find? Need to keep using it for awhile, but I will revisit this post and let you know if I ever want to sell it. Thanks again.

That's good to know. If I ever end up wanting to sell it, I'll definitely revisit this thread. I did buy it new, and have been using an i7-930, so hopefully the xeon will almost double the speed. I do 3D renderings, but have generally used my office's machines. To really crank out images I would need a more current gen i7, or a couple dedicated render machines. But this is an inexpensive way to get a bit more speed while waiting for a big project that will justify a bigger hardware expense.

Thanks again!
