As much as I like my Xbox, why does Microsoft have to make everything so
darn clunky and ugly!! Damn, everything Apple touches looks amazing --
look at their operating systems and Ipod for example.

Does anyone find this box attractive? Maybe it will be different when
seen in person, but I have a feeling the next Playstation will look nicer.

However, it's what's inside that counts, MS delivered with the first
one, I'm sure they'll deliver with this one as well.

I agree with you, I think it's a step backwards in so far as what gamers
want, besides all that I bought a wireless PC controller just like the 360
one from Logitec and it doesn't get used since I went through 3 packs of
batteries in the first month of owning it which cost me more than the X-Box
live monthly fee's, I've quit both and don't intend to get back to using
either any time soon.

this is an ironic statement... here, click on the links below and
compare the two images:

Apple's Pippin video game console
http://tinyurl.com/7hn7z

Pippin's controller:
http://tinyurl.com/8dt3j

the Pippin (circa 1995) was a horrendous flop for Apple Computer.
here's the marketing schpeal:

Apple's Pippin is viewed as Apple's entry into the video game market,
but CEO Michael Spindler says it's much more. He hopes that Pippin
could become the new "$500 Internet appliance": "With Pippin, we can
create a new market segment and not just bastardize the PC by taking
parts out." Currently the device contains a quad-speed CD-ROM drive, a
PowerPC 603e chip, 6 Mbytes of RAM, 4 Mbytes of built-in software --
including the operating system and utilities -- and video connections
to either a VGA monitor or a TV.

now, look at the xbox 360.. to me, they aren't all *that* different
looking, despite the era and their guts.

Yeah, the black/white buttons are moved.

I hope the XBox controller ports are backwards compatible, too. I prefer my
original big controllers.

No way, most games nowadays use the analog stick and the Xbox one feels way
more natural. I hate having to stretch my thumb over when using my PS2
controller. The Xbox one feels much more natural. If the switched the
D-pad and analog stick then they might as well just use a Dualshock 2 cause
that's basically what it would be.

It makes a lot more sense. Take the Dual Shock: the thumbsticks
are where they are because that way the d-pad and buttons stay where the
non-analog PSX controller had them. And back then, that was the most
reachable spot for your thumbs. The XBox gets it right*: now that the
left thumbstick is used more than the d-pad, it should be in the primary
location.

The Dual Shock [2] tends to aggravate my RSI some, actually.

* OK, the S-controller gets it right.

I hope for your sake there are ports somewhere... that controller you see is
wireless.

If you get a USB adapter for your old controller then you'll probably be
able to plug it into one of the USB ports and have it recognised as an Xbox
controller. I'd be surprised if Microsoft don't end up selling an adapter
themselves.

That may work, although generally old controllers wont work on new
consoles because the console manufacturers don't want to kill a
revenue stream. A third party may make an adapter to allow that, but
I wouldn't expect MS to.
