Hello,
Quick simple question.
I have a 4070ti on 3k oled. I might want to get a 4k monitor but shrink downsize a bit if I can, I am currently on a 34-inch widescreen curved OLED.

Should I get 7900 xtx as an upgrade or should I wait for 5080?

Why am I asking?
After tons of research into leaks, I'm just not impressed with this year's release. Also, the looming tariffs are putting me on edge. I am not sure if I should get the 7900 xtx now or if it's worth waiting for the 5080 to release.

7900 XTX: a two-year-old card, with a solid amount of VRAM (24 GBs), but lacking in RT performance and upscaling, when compared to Nvidia's GPUs.

RTX 5080: a latest generation card, with all the bells and whistles (presumably DLSS 4.0, Frame Generation, Neural Rendering, etc), but lacking in the VRAM department (if you ask me, 16 GBs are just not enough for today's standards, especially for a card of this calibre).

I'd steer clear from both of them.

If you want a GPU right now, opt for 4090.

Otherwise, try and be patient, until 5090 is released.

If you can't afford either of them, stick with what you currently have, until you raise some more cash.

Don't buy just to buy. We are all familiar with the temptation.

My issue with the 4090 and 5090 is the price; it's just too expensive for me to consider investing. I can raise the money but I rather have something else now as I wait for them to release better cards in the future that aren't overly bloated in price tag.

I really wanted the 5080 but Nividia decided to cheap out on RAM, again. This is why I am considering the 7900xtx, especially with the price deal.

Not sure if I should save the extra bucks -- forget about the 5080, get the 7900xtx and its good deals right now, and wait for the next 2-4 years for the next releases again.
OR
If the 5080 will end up being worth it even though the ram ended up being 16 instead of 24

Currently thinking on a 7900xtx myself. My local Microcenter has them for about 799. Very much considering pulling the trigger on one after Christmas. I think the ray tracing is about 3080/3090 level so it can do it just not as well as nvidia's newer cards. But in terms of performance it's a fast card. You could go 4090 but those are pricey as well. As far as upscaling amd has been getting better, but if say you are at 1440p, do with a beast of a card like that do you care about upscaling, or really need to?

Yeah... I'm favoring more on getting the 7900xtx and doing another wait for the next line of GPUS to put money in. This current release is just bad.

I am just trying to see now which brand to get now :<

If I can get the powercolor hellhound they have for 799 that’s likely what I’ll grab. Otherwise they have a refurbished reference card for the same price I may pick up.
right now i am looking at Nitro and Pulse versions from Saphire. pulse 870 vs nitro 980

I am thinking of using Nitro to reduce the temperature a bit more. I had bad experiences with AMD and their GPUs getting too hot :[.
I'm in Florida so heat control is always a concern for me.

You've already got a 4070 Ti so buying a new card now at the tail end of a generation isn't particularly advisable. You'd also be giving up DLSS and RT performance (when not VRAM limited the 4070 Ti is better than the 7900 XTX) to gain VRAM and raster. A good price on the 7900 XTX doesn't make it a good buy at this point. It doesn't look like stock from the primary manufacturers (ASRock/Sapphire/XFX) has dried up yet so they'll likely still be around next month.

I do think it would be a big mistake no matter what to not wait and see what is announced at CES given that it kicks off Jan 7th.
