Alrighty, so I have spent my time this evening looking over the internet, and I found many answers for this issue, all pointing to me ethernet port being fried...but none seem to have a story quite like mine.
My xbox is about five and a half years old, got it for Christmas in 2008. It hasn't connected to Xbox Live ONCE since November 2012, and spent about 6 or 7 months untouched. I started playing it again, and just this evening, decided to connect it to the internet again so I could recover my old gamertag on a USB drive I was using for memory (which I was forced to use because after my while away from using my xbox, the Hard Drive actually stopped working entirely. Had to switch to a USB to save anything at all.). Well, needless to say, it was just my luck to see that the ethernet cable wasn't being recognized as being plugged into my Xbox. There's nothing wrong with the cable, I can assure that. It's worked in the three other devices I have plugged into to just fine. It's just choosing not to work with the 360, which tells me that, from the internet, my ethernet port is busted.
What I dont get, is that it seems this only happens due to a power surge of some sort. There hasn't been an ethernet plugged into this xbox in well over a year and a half, and yet, the ethernet port seems to be busted? When my live ran out in 2012 and I lost the ability to play it due to someone staying in my home and occupying the room it was in, the ethernet was taken right out. There was never an opportunity for a power surge to affect it because there was no cable actually plugged in.
Basically, I guess the ethernet port is fried or I am missing some hidden option on how to fix this....but it doesn't make sense as to how it could have happened. My xbox is OLD, thats for sure. Not as old as some others, but old none-the-less. I've already said to myself that this isn't worth spending money on any further, but I just ask...What could have happened...and what can I possibly still do for FREE?
