XBOX 360 Play And Charge Kit on PC

My friend had a xbox controller with one of those charging usb things and i was wondering how to use it on pc. i tried plugging it in and playing Bastion and it says "no gamepad detected" in the device manager it says XBOX 360 Wireless Controller Via Play and Charge kit. i dowloaded the drivers from microsoft and it still wont work. does anyone have a solution? i am using windows 8.

That won't work, the cable only transfers power. You either need the wired controller, or the wireless receiver.

As MooseMuffin says, that won't work. The USB cable on the Play and Charge kit simply provides power to recharge your battery pack. No other signals go to/from the PC. You need the wireless receiver for PC to use your wireless gamepad, or use a wired controller. The wireless receiver dongle comes in a special 'PC' version of the wireless controller. You may be able to find one sold separately on ebay or Amazon.

What if u take out the battery from the remote? It works on xbox360 like a wired controller. Not sure for the pc. Can someone explain this?
