From what I have heard, around the Futuremark forums and other places. PS3's RSX is just a 7800GTX on 90nm. The Xbox 360's ATI GPU is as good/better as a x1900 XTX...so...which beats the 7800gtx.. And the cell is not 8 *true* cores. Its 1 fully functional core with 7 little cores which cant do much.

I am pretty sure it is 9 cores, based on 1 Main Core and 8 smaller ones.

As far as graphics, I can't say specifically which cards are equivalent, but I have been more impressed with what I have seen from PS3 than XBOX360 so far. I think that one of the functions of the smaller cells is that they can handle additional graphics processing. I am not too sure on that though.

I do not know what console will be best. I will by the new nintendo system, why? You can download and play almost( it says that for now) game that has ever been put out for any nintendo console! Thats freaking great! And it is backwards able with the gamecube. So I wont have to throw the games I have away. Mario Kart SNES here I come!!!

Most of the screenshots + videos you have seen are pre rendered to some degree. Say I if you honestly think the RSX(7800 GTX on 90nm) can handle two 1080p Streams of the quality you have seen for the PS3.

It can actually have up to 8 vector processing units. Which is pretty interesting and that is why it has a bigger TF count. Its basically 8 RISC CPUs, which are going up against the 360's 3 Power processors. Each unit is touted to be 32GFlops of power when run at 4Ghz. The main core, is supposed to be a PowerPC core which will manage the others. So the Cell processor is probably about 256-300GFlops of power, meaning the rest of the system gives it the 2TF I posted earlier about (most of that is probably graphics card - whatever RSX is)

So on paper, I'd have to say PS3 is more powerful.... BUT games make the console, so its really hard to say which will win.

I understand about pre-rendered, however, most of what I have seen for XBOX360 has been pre-rendered as well, since I have seen veryu little of the actual system since release. I am trying to make as close as a comparison as I can.

I don't think that the PS3s RSX can or will handle that quality on two 1080p Streams, but I don't think it will be needed either. very few people will be using 2 monitors, and i for one will be limited to 1080i on a single TV anyway.

Absolutely, thats why someone with too much money and no wife to complain about it can make a strong argument for buying both. :)

I remember way back when, the only reason I bought a PS1 was because of Final Fantasy VII (One of the best console games EVER).

Both systems have great games lines that make them worth it. I will probably by PS3 becuase I love the Metal Gear Series.

You heard wrong. The Xbox360 GPU is not the X1900 XTX. If you take a look on Microsoft's website, they state "The Xbox360's GPU is capable of 48 billion shader operations per second." Well ATI's site says that the X850 XT can do "43 billion shader operations", making it impossible for 360 to have an X1900.
Also, the "RSX" will be more powerful than the Xbox360 GPU; however it's still not an amazing chip.

Xbox 360s Xenos GPU is called the r500. ATIs upcoming r600 will be a combination of the R580 and r500. Basicly put the r580 is the *Xenos* without the shaders unified and some other features not in there. The Xenos has more power then a 7800GTX which is the RSX

There is a TON of talk about how good the PS3 is suppose to be on paper, but therein lies the catch, it is only on paper. Reading arstechnica and other sites Sony has not even shown a model of it yet. all the screenshots you see were rendered on a computer. Paper specs mean nothing, I remember people touting how much better the speaks of the xbox on paper were suppose to be on PS3, it is the actual gameplay and intergration. At this point it is 360 1 PS3 nothing because I have played a 360 and I love it. I have not played the PS3 so I really cannot have an opinion about whether or not it is better than the 360 or not.

Here's an update I heard. I talked to a store manager recently, and he said his Sony rep said it could be LATE 2007 before we see PS3. If so, that will make it junk before it debuts without a redesign.
