Xbox 360 wired controller. Working one minute then not the next

Have had Xbox 360 for a year. With a wired controller... The controller just stopped working so thought must of been a broken wire in cable.. Have borrowed a friends wired controller which works on their xbox 360 and it is working one minute and can move around. The next nothing will press and can't use any of the buttons. The controller works on my friends Xbox... What could the problem be

Have you tried different usb ports? If that doesn't work, try removing the driver and reinstalling it. You should find it in the device manager.
