The controller works perfectly well but I was wondering whether I can turn it off (take out the batteries) but still leave it active in-game (i.e Battlefield 3 I use mouse/keyboard for infantry and controller for jets/choppers). I don't want the batteries to drain while I'm not using it.

Thanks

Hmm, i don't think there's a way to do it. I'd suggest getting a wired one but that's too late so i guess the only thing you can do is let it idle it shouldn't use to much battery doing nothing. I'd recommend buying a cheap third party controller but there's no guarantee that it will be good quality but here's one for 10$ http://www.amazon.com/BLUE-Small-Type-Controller-Microsoft-XBOX/dp/B006ZQ85YG/ref=sr_1_7?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1376403699&sr=1-7&keywords=wired+controller Another thing you can do is buy a play and charge kit http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16874103188 or if you have one just plug it into your computer and it should recognize it as a wired one. here's the cheapest official wired one i could find...
Hi, i don't think it's possible the only thing you can do is just leave it to the side i don't think in the settings there's any idle time setting so the best thing would be to just turn it on when your about to spawn in a jet.

It has to be on when I launch the game and if I turn it off and back on it no longer works until I load the game again.

It's fine, I have rechargeable batteries anyway.
