I wonder what a "Single State Disk" is? maybe it is a Solid State Disk which can only store 1's OR 0's?

It's not the same as DVD. You can't just copy someone's product fella and start selling it, think about it? Ever heard of patents or copyright? Another minor point you are missing here, if Microsoft start bringing out blu-ray games then everyone with a 360 is going to have to buy another one with a blu-ray drive. You can't just swap out the internal drive can you? How do you think that will go down? And while we are in a 360 v Ps3 arguement, I own both and can honestly say the PS3 owns the 360. When you turn on the 360 it's like someone is hoovering in the room the noise is so bad. You can barely hear the PS3 even when it's quiet in the room. The 360 in its current state is not suitable for serious movie or music playback so if you have to choose which blu-ray platform to go for (if Microsoft are allowed to use it) people with any sense will stick with the PS3. If they aren't allowed to use blu-ray then the games will start to fall behind PS3's when they really take advantage of blu-ray storage and performance. The loss of the format war in my opinion is a catastrophic disaster for Microsoft consoles.

Im for down loadable content. Just like any other gamer my discs are always getting scratched or burned up. So if you can download a whole game instead of buying a disc it will pay off in the long run. You hear of more dvd disc quit working rather then a hard drive crashing. Actually the hard drive rarely ever crashes. Most cases something internal in the xbox defects but what is nice is that you can switch out the old hard drive very easy and not have to pay for a new one. I know right now im on my third dvd of halo 3 right now. and my second copy of grand theft auto. With games at 60 to 70 dollars a pop i sure did spend a lot of money on games that i already bought. I say bring on the DOWN LOADABLE CONTENT with the DOWN LOADABLE GAMES! And one more comment... not having to play disc means less parts wich equals less that can go wrong with your game system.

Also Sony knows what they are doing. If Xbox goes with Blue Ray and makes games on Blue Ray in the future. Sony will sit back with there pockets full of benjamins saying "SHOW ME THE MONEY!" They would be double dipping. Oh whats that Microsoft you just sold another xbox game on Blue Ray.... I think ill take my 10 percent cut which is about 7 dollars a game. Sweet thinking Sony not only are you making millions on your games now you can make millions on Microsoft games too! And who said Sony was going to put there selves out of business?

PS3 will nvr be above 360 cause of xbox live, sony's online gaming experience is junk. if you can complain about $50 a year then maybe you shouldnt be buying a $4-500 dollar gaming system? over dlc is an awesome feature, look at COD4, for 360 theres new maps but ohhh you cant get them on PS3. haze may be like halo for game play but theres not 350k people online all throughout the day, i think the avg users on halo 3 a day is 1.27mil?

Here is why Sony won't be worried. The big difference between PS3 and 360 is that Sony is actually making their games on Blue-Ray disc and 360 won't be able to till the next generation of Xbox system. Why? Because then they'll alienate the over 20 MILLION 360 owners who's system's won’t be able to play a 360 Blue Ray game. And what does that spell? Instant disaster. Current 360 games are made on standard DVD's and a firmware upgrade will not magically allow current 360's to play Blue-Ray games, the drives in the current systems would have to be physically taken out and replaced with blue-ray drives in order to do that. And that is why the PS3 will rule over 360 because devs have more room to play with on a PS3 game than a 360 game because of blue ray. MGS4 for example is over 40GB on a single disc. So Sony has nothing to sweat because this move my Microsoft is their way of trying to play catch up while the PS3 will continue to sell. Them going to Blue-ray is just another instance of Sony one upping them once again.

Sony may not be worried about MS using blue ray, but I don't think they'll be getting that much off of blue ray games sold for the 360. That's if they get any at all. You have to consider the trade off. Sony already pays a licensing fee for every computer they sell that has windows installed on it. So MS has already been double dipping in a sense. When it comes down to the advantages of blue ray the only thing that Sony has over MS is storage capacity. Otherwise the hardware in the 360 is significantly better and easier to to develop for. As far as making games larger than 8 GB. It can already be solved by either packing games with multiple discs or letting people download the extra content on LIVE. When MS releases Xbox 360 with blue ray it's literally just one more punch in the face to sony.

Yes, Sony will make money from Microsoft if Xbox 360 ships with a a Blu-ray player. However, the fees don't seem that drastic. Here's some sanity for all of you folks speaking without facts.

Article Excerpts:

#) DVD per disc fee ... 4 cents per disc.
#) To make a DVD player legally, manufacturers recently had to pay around $4 per player or drive.
#) The [Blu-ray] royalties will be split among several players.
#) A lot of people call it a Sony standard but by our estimates Sony doesn't even have 30 percent of the IP.
#) Gartner analyst Van Baker, however, said he doesn't believe that Blu-ray will be as lucrative as DVD.

If the Gartner analyst is correct and Blu-ray is less lucrative than DVD and the DVD numbers above is correct, then all of this chatter is moot.

the_stiffmeister :

If Microsoft build a 360 with an integrated blu-ray it may dent sales of the PS3 but Sony will be getting a share of the sale of 360. You don't think people can just start building blu-ray drives and shipping them without some kind of licensing agreement from Sony (LOL). I would love to see the faces of the chief's at Microsoft though for getting it all wrong and knowing that in the future everytime someone buys a 360 a percentage goes to their bitter rivals. If they had shipped the 360 with an integrated HD drive to start with I doubt Sony would have won. Just think how many people would have a HD drive and would therefore be buying the HD disks.

Is this like the money Microsoft gets everytime Sony sells a desktop, laptop, and media center pc??? LOL

i think that if xbox makes a blu ray "add-on", it will not be nessisary to even think about making the game sin blu-ray, for you already have a built in drive that is game compatible. but yet you now have a drive that will play bluray discs, it makes alot of sense and if your that worried about it not being able to play regualr games then you have another thing comming. all you need it one drive that plays games and one drive that plays movies, that was the point of the HD drive as well, just to play movies. common sense yall.

hoooah to that!!!......
He's absolutelly right..... games go where they have always been and if there is gonna be an xbox 360 blu ray thingie.... it should be external, like the hd dvd one they produced.
FOR WATCHING MOVIES ONLY...... there´s no need for blu ray based games.
Games are superb the way they are right now.
Now, even if sony earned something for every game xbox sold, it would never be enough to even reach xbox in sales.
Xbox 360 sales are much higher than playstation sales.
"Oh, but PS3 is better because.... (whatever stupidity they claim).... "
The answer to that should be.... Ok.. its true, but we dont care.
Intellivision was better than atari2600 in many ways, and atari won that war, Apple was much better than pc for many years, and microsoft had to inject millions of bucks to apple in order to not let it disapear.
PS3 is a second place console..... it is, and it will be.
Lets leave the divinity of ps3 to the followers of the ps3 religion.
The rest of us, go where the watter flow.

First off people, Sony wasn't the only developer of blue-ray. Panasonic also had a hand in its developement and Microsoft could easily make a deal with them to build blue-ray drives.(It only seems that way because Panasonic usually only makes high end blue-ray players.) That would leave Sony out of the financial loop as far as that is concerned. I'm a 360 owner and I wouldn't trade it for a PS3. I do agree that the PS3 is a very nice peice of tech but, jsut like you have fans of the PS, I'm a fan of xbox. Anyway, all that's aside from the point. I will say this, I do agree with some of you on the fact that blue-ray is the way to go for games. Developers would have a ball! I'm not going to get into all the specs because someone else already did but, what MS needs to do is, if they are going to do this; then they really need to think about the consumer and do it right! I'm not a fan of spending a significant amount of money to upgrade to a blue-ray system. I would suggest some sort of buy back program based on the age of your system. Meaning, the date you actually purchased the brand new system or manufacture date codes of the system or both. Example: $200-$250 for systems less than a year old, $100-$150 for systems over one year. This could be tweaked but, you get the idea. Besides, it's not like MS can't afford to do so and the systems that MS buys back would probably be refurbished with new blue-ray drives and firmware and then resold to the masses. Oh, lets not forget playback of all original 360 games on the new systems with all features and point system intact and the ability to use the saved game data of the already purchased hard drives. I know that this all sounds like a way for MS to get more money but, lets face it, this is business. MS took a huge gamble and lost by not supporting blue-ray in the first place. Yes, I know. They weren't sure about wich format would win. Now that we know, we as consumers will have to decide for ourselves on whether not upgrade or buy a PS3.

I stand corrected. It was Philips not Panasonic who also developed blue-ray. No need to comment on this mistake.

^ it isn't gonna happen... This was written 3 years ago.... Te new slim came out and nothing.... Just wait for the Xbox 720
