Hey everyone,

I am having an odd issue with my Xbox One Elite controller with my PC. I don't recall ever having this issue in the past. I have not played any PC games the last couple months due to time restaints, but fired up a couple games this past weekend.

First off, I have the Xbox One Elite controller connected to my PC via USB cable. This is my PC setup via PC Parts Picker:

Now, this has happened just recently with 2 games - Dying Light and WWE 2k17. I have not tried playing any games since I did a restart, but I tried several other fixes when I was having this issue. What is happening is, I will boot up a game with the Elite controller plugged in. No issues at first. Then at random times, the controller will just stop responding, and none of the buttons will work in game. Hitting ALT+Tab seems to re-trigger the controller to work again in both games. In Dying Light, not only does the controller stop responding, but all the audio in the game mutes. After ALT+Tab is pressed and I retunr back to the game, everything goes back to normal.

I have tried different USB ports - a couple in the front of the case and one directly plugged into the back of the motherboard. I am not sure if these ports where 3.0 or 2.0 USB. I youtubed the issue, and one user said to just re-install the drivers for the Elite controller. I tried that, and it seemed to fix the issue for a while, but it started up again.

Does any one have any ideas what could be causing this? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Your PCPartPicker list doesn't include your OS and it's not mention in your post, can you please include that bit in? Regarding the controller being operable after an uninstall and reinstall of the controller's drivers, how many times have you tried that solution? On another note, have you made sure your chipset and remaining device drivers are all up to date?

FYI, you forgot to mention the ram and the motherboard in your system's specs, which leads me to ask, are you sure your motherboard BIOS is up to date?

Sorry that isn't the right list. This one is.

Windows 10 Pro is my OS.I have tried uninstalling the drivers and re-installing them twice. It appears to NOT stop working if I am using my keyboard. If I use it to chat to people in steam it doesn't seem to stop working then.

My BIOS is up today to the latest version, and I have all the latest chipset drivers. I am using DDR4 32 gig ram and the motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-X99-Ultra Gaming.

what it sounds like is your pc is allowing the controller to go into sleep mode or something, try going into your settings in the bios and setting the proper interupt, or going into your settings in your OS power options and setting the usb to wake

Actually no, I had already gone through those options.

What it turned out to be was a junk driver for the Xbox Elite controller. I un-installed all drivers for all Xbox controllers on my system, re-install my Xbox One S model controller after that, and did not have anymore issues. The Elite controller driver that gets auto installed from the Elite is a bad driver on Windows 10 apparently...

Since un-installing all the drivers, and re-installing my Xbox One S controller driver, all is well.
