I have my xbox one controller plugged into my computer, it has no batteries as it won't connect with batteries. When I click the middle Xbox button it flashes on and off multiple times, however it doesn't connect to the computer itself. I've also tried hitting the sync button as well which causes it to flash faster, yet still, no connection to my PC. I've used every usb port on my PC, and tried different micro USB's. As I said, it is plugged in, and flashes so the USB and ports are working, however it doesn't connect, make any connection sound, or install any updates. I've also ran windows update to try and see if that fixes it. I've gpupdate 'ed my computer and then scanned for new updates and nothing. I went through and updated everything that was able to update it, and still nothing.

Solution
Not sure if you ever got this figured out but the same thing was happening to me. Used a different USB cable and that seemed to do the trick. Mine would vibrate when plugged in but the light wouldn't turn on or detect the controller. New cable and it's working immediately.

Solution
I know this post is two years old, but the solution didn't help me and neither did any other solution online.

My way of fixing this is quite complicated.
1. Unplug the micro usb from your computer (while the micro usb and controller are still connected) and plug it into your xbox.
2. Load up a game and leave it there (you can play if you want) .
3. Go back to your computer and unplug it from a power source or just flip a switch in the back if you have one.
4. Go afk or play a game for around 20 minutes.
5. Once around 20 minutes is over go and unplug the controller from your xbox (make sure the micro usb cable and controller are still connected together) and plug it back into your computer (use the same port that you used before when your controller worked)
6. Connect your computer back to the power and turn your pc on.
&. The light on your controller should be on once you are on your password screen.
