I am still surprised that both consoles chose to go with an APU and not any form of dedicated graphics.
It's actually better this way if they want more power. these are not the same APU's you'll find in PC. They have dedicated high speed RAM and a large die that can hold a full GPU. these are much more complex and powerful than any APU on the market.. while it's true that they could have gone the CPU+GPU route, it would have made the system only marginally faster, but with a much large production cost and ofcourse extra power and heat from the chips themselves.
One problem is that MS decided to add besides the GPU and CPU extra ESRAM. this means they had less space on the die, thus they were forced to cut a big chunk of the GPU. even so they were only able to squeeze in only 32 MB.

I'll eventually buy a PS4, but there are no games that I care enough about. I'm enjoying playing the PS3 games I didn't get to play and they all cost like $10 now. I got titanfall on PC, so that would have been my only reason to even consider an xbox.

This is a pretty big "fuck you" to everyone that already bought an XBox One with a Kinect, as it pretty much guarantees that most developers will never support it, just like with the XBox 360. Granted, I never believed it was a good idea to include it as standard anyway (not with significant subsidy), but this will kill any potential support and severely limit titles that make use of what was a $100+ mandatory feature

So the issue here is we lack options/choice forcing things down peoples throat is not the way to do business it may work but not for long. What these companies need to do it stop milking us with one model of console and offer us more choices ex) xbox one that runs games at 720p 60fps with minimal options and no connect at 399.99 a mid range option that runs games at 1080p 60fps with limited features for 499.99/549.99 and a high end xbox that runs games at 1080p 60fps with extra AA and connect and added features for 649.99

And just design the games to be able to run on all 3? its not that hard it would only be 3 different types of settings to code the game to.

i dont see why they dont do this...

Both the PS4 and Xbox One are weak, exclusives aside.
Your PC will eat these consoles for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And, it's upgradeable.

I personally don't see the point of buying a PS4 or an X-Bone. 1080p has been a standard resolution for a long time now, and the new generation of consoles still can't handle it properly. So what's the point? And how is 4k ever going to happen for consoles if they can't get past 1080p?

The Xbox One costs about $470 to make. Most consoles made over the years by the big name game companies like nintendo, microsoft, sony and sega are sold at or near cost because they make the bulk of their money from game purchases via licencing fees. Consoles that were sold at price points for profits were huge failures, like the PHILIPS CDi.

This is also why you can get consoles that run games similarly to slightly more expensive PCs. You're paying full price for the PC components while consoles are discounted because they know they're going to profit the most from your game purchases.

PC is still the better choice over these consoles, but I'm just saying the cost of the console in the long run isn't a big deal to these companies. Depending on their price, they might lose $100, or $200 getting the console into your hands, but as soon you you buy a couple licensed games or peripherals they break even, and over the next 7-8 years every licensed product you buy is just cash in their pocket.

If Sony wanted to continue their recent trend of rubbing it in, they should release a bundle that includes the PS4 camera for the same $399 price. Talk about salt in a wound.

I can say this for one. I am happy because I can now purchase kinect 2.0 for taking higher res 3d meshes of yourself than you can with 1.0. This is great for me.

Ive been suprised at just how well the xbox one has been doing in sales. The ps4 is beating it, but all things considered, it has been selling a lot better then i would have guessed(something like 10 to 6, ps4 to xbox).

However, as soon as you look at the games sales numbers, its a completely different story. The ps4 isn't just outselling the xbox, its utterly and completely destroying it. Something like 10 to one.

Rather than compromise the experience they envisioned, why not just take the hit and match the PS4 price WITH Kinnect. If they REALLY believe the Kinnect will pay off in the long run... well Microsoft, put your money where your mouth is.
That's exactly what they should have done.

I think the data gathered a few weeks back from the price cuts at Walmart and Best Buy may have shown that a price cut wasn't getting it done. That could have pushed their hand.
I'll tell you this much: if I wanted to get a pulse on how my expensive $500 hardware was selling, I wouldn't go to Walmart (a low-cost seller) and Best Buy (electronics store dinosaur) and use their numbers for a gauge of the market... unless I wanted to make bosses at MS Headquarters think I had no choice (as opposed my error of putting out a crappy product).

I was comparing PS4 with Xbox One. People who still buy Xbox 360 are the people who are in tight budgets and in developing countries last gen consoles are selling better than the current-gen because the latter cost a lot. Moreover, I was talking an average gamer and what he/she would decide when he is given a choice between the PS4 and Xbox One.

Not everyone cares about which one is more powerful than the other. There is also this other thing called exclusives.
That is a valid point. Exclusives would help a console to sell well. Lets wait until E3 to see what Microsoft has in store for Xbox One.

The very fact that they'd be able to report that 80% of their users actively use their Kinects is exactly why I would not care to have one.
