but they're not asking for an internet connection to play a single player game off-line. they're being sensible and saying if you want multiplayer, if you want cloud back-up, if you want to stream a movie, well get yourself some internet

We are also designing it so you can play games and watch Blu-ray movies and live TV if you lose your connection.
I will be very interested in how they manage to let me watch live TV when my connection flickers.

This is from another toms article on the Xbox One "and that the One will require an additional installation fee for every new account for a game."

That leaves me to believe registration of games will be mandatory otherwise how will they even remotely be able to track how many accounts/profiles the game is linked to.

Here is a little more food for thought. Windows 8 try's to force you to sign up for a Microsoft Live account during user creation. There is a way to bypass it and have a local only account. Why would they give people that option on the Xbox One thought, which is designed to be a Multimedia hub? My bet is they force you to sign up for a XBox Live account then register your games to it.

I bet it will interface with a Cable Box/Satellite box kinda like how some tv's are setup to use a Cable card to allow them to act as a cable box.

I pity all the fools that are going to be beating down the store doors to pay for these devices which are so eerily reminiscent of the telescreens from 1984. Seriously, there's no way I'm letting an internet-aware black-box device armed with a camera and microphone into my home.

"Your games have more power available to create new gameplay, persistent worlds, and deeper experiences."
That right there pretty much sums up the entire Xbox presentation for me - meaningless advertising jargon.

@jezus53: What you need to realize is that you are no longer in MSFT's primary target market for consoles. They make much of their revenue from online sources - XBOX Live subscriptions, downloads, purchases, etc. Those also probably happen to be the most profitable. So unfortunately for you and people like you with limited internet connectivity, you just aren't worth the investment.
Not trying to be harsh - just looking at this from MSFT's perspective.

If they require an internet connection at all to play a game, including requiring online activation or online save games, then this is going to alienate a lot of people. I understand that many features (multiplayer, DLC, updates, etc) won't be available without being connected. The problem seems to be that more and more games are shipping that are incomplete with many bugs or limited content, so at a minimum you will need periodic internet to get the latest patches.

the percentage of people who don't have internet access what so ever (including cell-phone tethering), but also play computer games is extremely small nowadays. as long as it's not a required always on connection, they won't be alienating many people at all

Am I missing something? I have yet to see anything confirming that not having an internet connection will prevent you from playing a game. Stop bitching at rumors people.

"The cloud makes every experience better and more accessible." ...how about you don't tell me what will make a better experience for me and give ME the choice. I don't let a restaurant order the food for me do I ?
People if you don't like how these companies treat you, never listen to your feedback, and wanting milk you to the last penny...then don't buy their products. Very easy.
You gave them feedback and they did not listen, no excuses.
Screw them- buy a PC.

Windows 8 let's you use any email you want you don't have to use hotmail.. just like apple does as well.. you don't need to signup if you don't want to use the MS store.. Now let's try the same thing with Android.. wait what.. I have to have a gmail account, why can't I use my regular email account.. hmmm seems like you got it wrong.. It's Google forcing to use their service not MS.

I hope you don't use any Google products.

So no one in Iran can play with it!! i think its an Asian non-friendly console!! Nice Microsoft , thx for this shit
